The 2pt WDHs hitches are less expensive and offer less sway dampening than the 4pt WDHs. The Hensley and Propride are sway eliminating WDHs that are heavy and expensive...but eliminate sway. Heavy WDHs take a large bite out of your already limited 1/2 payload capability.
My personal experience...
I would agree in part to your power to weight position. However the extra payload and 3/4 ton truck mass pay dividends when towing in less than ideal weather conditions. Coming back from our trip last week, ran into 15-20mph winds with gusts up to 25. Not an issue in the 250, with the 1500 it...
Well the torque curve is impressive, comes on early and is nice a flat, ideal tow engine. Its hamstrung by the 10speed if you get the 3.55s. Go with the 4.30s. Or wait until Ram comes out with the 8/10speed and larger cab...I should have.
Averaged 8.9mpg (lie-o-meter) coming back from the coast this weekend (~400 miles). 8.7 mpg hand calc; idling for fuel stop (10 mins), 2X rest stops for bath room breaks (10mins ea), so I cant complain too much. I little underwhelmed with the 3.55 rear end. The 4.30 ratio is probably a better...
Prior to its maiden towing experience...
No, not really. Set the WDH up, flipped it down and adjusted to lowest setting... was hoping not to have to purchase a longer longer drop. Very close... Moved the TT up the drive way then back into parking spot. Towed like it wasn't even back there.
I completely agree, and I didnt mean to knock the 6.4 with the 8 speed. Just that the truck that I drove had the 3.73 and would have probably bought the truck if it had a 4.10 rear end. The mega cab 4wd is a heavy truck. The 5.7 w 3.92 really spoiled me as far as performance.
It does have the 5th wheel prep...just in case. Wife noticed that and immediately said we are not getting a 5th wheel... I * think* she meant we are not getting a 5th wheel right now...:) Work to be done.
I was looking for a particular configuration and the truck that I found had the 3.55 e locker in it. Not sure how I will like the e locker, I thonk I would prefer the LSD since I'm not doing any off roading. TFL was saying that the different in MPGs between the 3.73 and the 4.30 was only 1-2...
I think the Cummins 6.7 is best diesel engine available in the 3/4 and 1 ton market. However, I use my truck as a daily driver so throw in short trips, regens, 12qt oil changes and $100 fuel filters, I decided to go gas. We tow light (6500#) and we tow 8-10 times a year. We were pushing 1800# in...
2020 F250 Super Duty w 7.3, 3.55. Ram is far and away the class leader in interiors. The BH 5.7 w 3.92 was a great truck we just ran out of cargo capacity.
No, not with the 5.7... Ram drug its feet on the *new* gen Ram 2500 (smaller cab, 6 speed auto) so I jumped on the 2020 Super Duty 7.3 with 10 speed. Maybe one day we can return to the Ram family (owned 3). The 5th gen Ram 1500s are outstanding trucks, we just outgrew our 1/2 ton payload. Best...
The funny thing is our previous 2017 2500 Tradesman had the flip up towing mirrors w/ heat (no power fold). Why cant we get heat on the towing mirrors w/o power folding on the 1500s???
