Do not run any oil additives. They can cause more harm than good. Modern engine oils are engineered to protect. If your oil isn't doing the job find a better oil. Dumping in additives changes the chemistry of the oil blend, and what you dump in could react poorly with the additives already...
The other option is to buy a set of the pass through sockets and ratchet. Then you can get a tool on the hex of the shift above the nut, to hold the shaft when you break the nut loose.
I have a truck with a LSD, one with a lunchbox locker, and my RAM with the e-locker. The LSD works "okay" but will still allow one wheel to spin in extreme traction differences between each wheel. Which is when you would want it to be locked the most.

Leave spring pressure on the strut when loosening the bolt. Will help keep the shaft from spinning. Once the nut starts to loosen, then compress the springs.
As for ball joint, never use a pickle fork. All they do it destroy the ball joint boots. Hopefully you have new UCAs already...
