This for the 1500's as it differs in the HD.

I have the digital rearview camera and do not use nor like it at all, so thought what if I grabbed an HD chmsl that has both the drv and cargo cams and simply swapped the camera locations and/or connections to then have the cargo cam on the rearview mirror as it is not possible to this point from what I have gathered to have a functioning cargo cam on the 5th gen 1500 radio screens.

So wondering if anyone else has tried this as I really miss the cargo cam I had on my 4th gen 1500, used it all the time as I use the truck for a truck always hauling or towing and helps to keep the wife tame.

In theory it should work and do so with no programming, no wiring just simply an hd light to replace the 1500. Maybe camera swapping and modding to fit? And if for some reason this is not doable my next attempt will be to use the aux camera feature, I have in conjunction with the hd chmsl.

The DRVM cameras only work with the mirror. They can't communicate with other devices. You would need the correct cameras for Uconnect which I believe are the same for the backup and surround view system.

The HDRam chmsl is physically different than the 5th gens because the HD trucks still use the 4th gen cabs. It will not bolt on to your 5rh gen.

To confirm: being there is two versions for HD's, I know the version with just the cargo camera is different as you stated that one I know and have experience with, but is that the same for the version that has both the digital rearview cam and the cargo? I have not held one yet but from pictures it leads me to think it would fit and then swap the camera locations in the light and cam connections so essentially just changes the viewing angle of the rear view cam and not using the second cam. Are you referring to the later as well?

Got it so yes would have to relocate the rvm cam physically to the cargo camera location to change that view.
Now if I wanted to use the auxiliary camera port and function to achieve the same view then a different camera other than the rvm one is required.
I started to look into that but seems maybe a confusing subject as even with the trailer surround view cams and trailer tpms im finding statements about compatibility is not universal across year ranges and rather year specific, so ill have to spend more time trying to find a correct part number on the camera that works on a 22 aux camera port which I haven't even attempted to find where that exists yet. Trying and learning at same time here.

There isnt a CHMSL meant for the 4th Gen cab used on the HD Rams will fit the 5th gen 1500s.
