All the vehicles I have access to have between three and four gallons left when Range says zero or warning comes on depending on brand.
It all because the fuel pump will overheat if you do run out of fuel. The fuel is its coolant!

Take a look at the Silverado recovery. Owner was going to be fined every day it sat there, three trucks two involved in actual recovery, truck had been there for months and like 4 other companies had failed or refused to go.
Owner sold or gave the truck to one of the guys on the recovery.
I've had them. I know GM also uses?used them on Escalades. They are fine in snow but get noisy when about 3/4 worn. Factory figment, I didn't buy again as they got nastily noisy once 3/4 worn.
That payload is exactly why the diesels are not good in 2500 trucks and why big gassers are the way to go. The weight of the diesel kills the payload big time. 3500 is minimum to get decent payload.
