If those are aftermarket LED lights, start there. Lots of people have had strange interference problems with remote start and such and traced it to cheap LED bulbs.
Did that trailer have a 4 pin or a 7 pin hookup? I believe the trailer length and all that are triggered by the electric brake circuit. Tow/haul only adjusts transmission shifting.
