Only 6.5 mpg towing enclosed trailer!

Speed is your enemy when towing... The single best way to improve economy while towing is to slow down, period. No amount of gearing, cold air intake, exhaust system, computer flashing, or what have you is going to take the place of patience. Make the same run at 60-63mph and you'll be much...

    USB Charge Only Option?

AH HA!!!! Now THAT looks like an answer right there!!! So that type of a cable essentially makes even a data port just transfer power and not accept/look for input from a device? I can just keep a couple of those cables in the truck instead of the typical ones and it's a done deal? Yahtzee!!

    USB Charge Only Option?

Thanks for the quick responses! My truck does have the center console USB port, and the 120V outlet on the rear of the console itself. That said, I'd like to avoid additional wires/splitters if possible, that is what makes a USB port so handy because pretty much every device can use a simple...

    USB Charge Only Option?

Is there a way to make the multitude of USB ports spread throughout the interior all just be for charging? Every time I've got the kids in the truck with me, they plug their phone(s) in to charge them up and the next thing I know my bluetooth music streaming is interrupted by a bunch of...

How big have you towed? w/Pics no tricks!

Couple more recent ones, again not heavy but it seems to constantly have a trailer hitched up  1970 Jeepster Commando that I'm just getting starting on building up... Rolling chassis from a 1977 Ford Bronco that I'm restoring:

How big have you towed? w/Pics no tricks!

Two of us have replied to this thread with Jeeps in tow, so not sure if you were asking me or the other guy, but I'll give you my thoughts... Overall it's fine. Certainly not a heavy duty diesel platform, but for my use case it's not lacking for power, steering control, or braking performance...

    Anyone Removed CD Player?

You could probably get it out by sliding the console back several inches, but at that point you've already taken out all of hardware that holds the console in place so you might as well pull it all the way out to make seeing and removing the CD player brackets easier, and a put a good cleaning...

    OEM Fender Flares

Years ago I had a Tundra and could not find an aftermarket flare that I liked because they all had the silly rivet hole look. I ended up buying a used set for cheap and put a couple layers of fiberglass over them, covering the rivets and turning them into a smooth flare. Of course that took...

    Airs bags needed

I installed the Airlift in-coil bags immediately after my first towing experience. The truck sat level when loaded, which was fine and essentially per design, but I knew that I would be installing a suspension kit that would reduce/eliminate the factory rake entirely, which equates to sag when...

    OEM Fender Flares

They arrived black. The fronts were smooth, but the rears had a texture on them. Not sure why they had a different finish, but a light sanding took the majority of the texture off and some high-build primer took care of the rest. They came out smooth and glossy, perfect match for the rest of...

6inch bds lift kit and air bag helpers

They can yes. Depends on how you have things setup, as they won't compensate for a poorly distributed load on the trailer or things like that, but overall they are a great addition for most towing situations from my experience.

Took an angle grinder to my bumper

I think that turned out great, way to work with what you've got!! For the front recovery points, I wonder if you could bend up some tube to follow the horizontal contour of the lower/exposed portion of the bumper, and just have a single eyelet mounted in the center? That would give you a...

    Bed organizer for recovery gear

Those are cool, but kind of expensive for what it is unless you are dead set on utilizing the MOLLE system... Since these trucks already have a nice set of holes for the factory option cargo management system, maybe just use that as a layout for your own side rack made from something like 3/4"...

6inch bds lift kit and air bag helpers

They can be made to work, but out of the box the answer would be no... You'll have to fab up custom upper and/or lower brackets to eat up the additional space created by the lift kit.

    OEM Fender Flares

Mine didn't come with mudflaps, so I cannot comment for sure on that? I ended up installing front and rear WeatherTech no-drills after I put on the flares.

    Trailer Battery Charge Amperage?

I looked at the Owner's Manual for the fuse that is typically associated with the trailer battery charge circuit, but I'm at a loss? The PDC under the hood doesn't have anything that appears to be for this circuit, but the PDC under the dash has an ambiguously titled F01 "Trailer Tow...

    Anyone Removed CD Player?

Answering my own question here in case anyone else ever asks the question... I pulled my center console out entirely yesterday, and of course had to unplug all of the associated wiring in the process. I cycled the "key" several times in both ACC and RUN positions and played with all of the...

How big have you towed? w/Pics no tricks!

Definitely does, thank you. We previously had a Keystone Carbon 387 toy hauler that we yanked around with our 2012 Dodge 3500, and we used the B&W turnover ball and a Reece Goosebox on the trailer. It was a fantastic setup for us and the biggest benefit to me personally was the lack of...
