I have the same experience. I have a delay if I use the app and sometimes there is no connection... I see no reason to renew my free trial subscription. My remote / key fob is fine with me.

Du-ha underseat storage may be what you are looking for. I can lay a shotgun down in mine and it has a cutout for it.

I ran power via a cord from my radar detector unit to the fuse box and plugged into a wire tap there. Sorry, I have no experience running the power directly from the rearview mirror.
