Retrofitting the 33 gallon tank

Great research on this. From what I can tell 68527270AB fuel bundle line is for '22 and newer trucks. This is in the description that I see "2022-2025 Ram 1500". However, the other 52030443AC fuel bundle that has been used from the beginning has this description "2019-2024 Ram 1500". So, I wonder what criteria designates on a '22-'24 model to use the newer 68527270AB part number.

Could anyone that has needed 68527270AB due to the sensor identify if there truck is a '22 or newer and if there is anything else you can think of that might suggest why you have the sensor?
I think it's the etorque that gets that. Every one I have seen that didn't have etorque, didn't have the sensor. Each one with the etorque did have the sensor. An the sensor is also a change that came later with '22. If you're wondering if you have it. I used a bore scope to look before I pulled everything down.
 
Paid $215 for a 33gal tank and vapor cannister from my local recycler, going to pick it up early next week. I want to see what lines it ends up coming with before I start ordering other stuff.

There is one thing I am confused about and that is the skid plate, I'm converting from 26 to 33 and I see skid plate 52029964AD in half the parts list and I don't know if I need it. Is the skid plate like an off road option that came on some trucks I don't need, or is it there and I can just reuse the one off the 26gal tank ??? I don't intend on running the third strap as it seems that its redundant from what others have have done the swap have said, and Id like to not spend $400 on a plate I don't need.

I think the skidplate was indeed part of an optional package, and I would assume that they be different from a 26 to a 33 … I do not have any skidplates on my truck, and the swap was uneventful….no skidplate needed….. I did weld in a 3rd strap …. Pretty easy project overall….. 700 mile range is pretty nice!…. Plenty of room underneath, the Aussies make a 50 gallon tank that fits underneath…. That be better yet…..😬

That 50 gallon tank is a $2000 kit

Is just fuel line bundle (52030443AC) and the 33 gallon tank (68408875AF)
Got the Gas tank for $175 new from my dealership and the Fuel line for $67

Old Canister transfers over and the Fuel pump.

New here. Would that hold true if starting with the 23 gallon original?

Because after doing 4 Ram 1500 gas Tank upgrades on 2022+ all have done has been the same 2x 2022 2x2023 and an the 2021 being different.
2022 and 2023 didn’t need new canister or fuel lines. The 2021 we worked needed new evap canister, new fuel vapor lines for it and the fuel lines plus the fuel tank.

Hey guys trying to make sure I have everything for the swap before I take the tank out of my truck.

The junkyard tank came with most of the lines including fuel line bundle (score) the guide calls for the vapor tube (57008595AA) and purge hose (52029903AB) as well.

I know I’m missing at least one of them as I’m missing the line that takes the other charcoal canister outlet and goes along the fuel line bundle towards the small end of the tank. But I think I have the other one and I can’t figure out which is which for the life of me. None of the listings for the part numbers are of much help so maybe one of yall can point me in the right direction?

If you’ve done the 26 to 33 or are thinking about it, what’s your use case to justify it?

I’ve been mulling over the idea of swapping the 26-gallon tank for the 33-gallon on the ’25 RAM 1500, and the deeper I dig, the less straightforward it looks. On paper, it sounds simple—buy the tank, maybe a pump, add a strap, bolt it in—but in reality there are some hurdles:
• Fuel gauge accuracy – It’s not just the tank. The sending unit and calibration have to match, otherwise the gauge won’t read right. Right?
• Electronics – On the ’25, the ECU is locked down by the CAN bus architecture, so that might prevent the gauge from being reprogrammed and it would never read right and may give faulty low fuel or worse, no low fuel warning at all. Right?
• Dealer resistance – Most dealers don’t want to take this on because it’s more than just a physical swap.

When you look at the actual benefit:
• Towing (7,000 lb trailer at ~7 mpg): the 26-gallon tank gives ~180 miles total, but you’re realistically stopping ~50 miles before empty. That’s about 130 miles between fill-ups. The 33-gallon tank bumps it to ~230 miles total, or about 180 miles between stops. Roughly a 50-mile gain. Is it really worth it for a 50mile gain? If pulling a boat maybe you get a 70 mile gain, or towing something smaller - maybe a hundred gain - so this is super use case dependent I guess. Common sense says it WOULD BE BETTER WHILE TOWING but for rarely towing the juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze of trying to upgrade. That’s my use case.
• Normal driving (~18 mpg average for me): the 26-gallon tank gives ~468 miles total, the 33-gallon ~594 miles. So an extra 120-130 miles of range.
• Around town, having ~470 vs ~590 miles per tank doesn’t change much. You’re filling up in 5 minutes.
• The 33-gallon tank weighs more, which eats into payload a bit.
• Off-grid, you can just carry a couple of 5-gallon cans in the bed for flexibility without messing with the truck’s electronics. I guess it might be better to have the 33 gal plus 5 gallon cans. I don’t know. This hurts my brain. This isn’t my use case anyway.

I just bought a 22 rebel etorque with 27k miles on it totally stock and original tires.
My first tank of gas was 14.3 mpg in light suburban driving. Haven’t done many highway miles. Very disappointed. I only have the 23 gallon tank and I can’t even get to the first exit In Georgia on a trip up 95 which I do a few times a year.

Sadly I have to buy a fuel pump to go from 23 to 33 which is an extra $400 for what is otherwise a fairly inexpensive upgrade.
My f150 had a 36 gallon tank and got significantly better gas mileage so I am used to long range. This truck will do a number of trips out west and overlanding so the upgrade is worth it to me.

I got used to the 33 in my previous 2021, with the diesel, a range of over 800mi. Average about 19mpg with the SO, so an extra 140mi with the 33, another 2hrs of driving.

It's obviously physically doable given that 2025s have the 33. As you note, new tank, strap, some fuel lines, and 33 skid plate. Dealer would be needed to add 33 sales code, then do proxi alignment - configuration update. That should take care of gauges, cals, distance to empty, etc. I suspect dealer resistance stems more from a warranty> no variance from stock mentality rather than complexity.

If the AlfaOBD/SGW folks here manage to solve the 2025 Atlantis architecture/security gateway puzzle, that might present an avenue to electronically reconfigure to a 33 gal tank.

You will reuse all filler hoses I left those connected and re use the fuel pump line if you have a 26 gallon ram 2022+.
