All the Karen’s and John’s make for HOA living to be overly restrictive and aggressive.

Not all HOAs are the same. I currently live in a neighborhood that is an HOA. I'm actually a board member. Nobody on the board likes the current covenants, but with the way they are written, it's next to impossible to change them. We don't really enforce them. As long as you put in a request, and it's not going to distract from the neighborhood we will approve it, even if it's against the covenants. The only thing we take action on is not paying your dues and trying to sell your house.

It’s just a little too much like communism for my blood. It may be ok for now, but it’s a restricted deed and you are pretty much stuck with it.

To each their own, not for me.

Snow removal, trash service, and landscaping/grass mowing of common spaces are paid for with HOA dues. It's $225 a year for my part of neighborhood and $175 a year for the smaller lots. We have walking paths and a nice playground with basketball court, sand volleyball,.pickle ball courts, and a 1/2 scale soccer field. We are in an unincorporated area, so don't fall under city codes. As far as city codes and code enforu, I had more issues with that, at my old house, than anything this HOA would do. Code enforcement actually towed a truck out of my own driveway because I didn't have plates on it, even though I was still within my 30 day grace period to get it registered

Doesn’t sound too bad. As long as you don’t start letting any jerk-offs on the board you should be good. I took a chance on one once, fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

We definitely got lucky here. Next move will hopefully be in the country with a nice outbuilding and some land, away from any city limits, city codes or HOAs

I live in Montana... we just kinda leave people alone on their property.

I get what you are saying. I've been there done that and even worse in apartments too. It sucks. I agree they are beneficial in a lot of scenarios. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with any of it anymore. Sorry about your crappy neighbor.

If it makes you feel any better, I detail the truck and on the ride into town it's covered in bugs, dirt/snow and all kinds of other crap. Back when I lived in VA and CA I loved to detail my vehicle and have it looking clean for weeks. A simple rinse with soft water was all it needed most times and stuff would just bead right off. Up here, it's not even a day before it looks the same as before I washed it lol. I gave up on waxing a couple vehicles ago but I'm considering doing a ceramic coat before this coming winter in the hopes it helps a bit.

On the subject of the thread though, I got this done today. So that was fun. Actually not as bad as I thought but I did have to remove a lot of the center console because of one single piece being overlapped. For anyone that might have broken their glove box dampener string thingy, here is a video that shows how to remove the inner glove box portion to get to the dampener.

I also learned from that video what I was doing improperly that broke the dampener string in the first place. Rather than trying to push in those side tabs and pull outwards like on pretty much every other vehicle I've ever had, you just lower it and pull it upwards off the bottom clips then wiggle it out. Those tabs don't actually depress, they are just to stop it from falling out. And I thought I could depress them when I left the tab for the string in place but nope... pulled a little too hard or something, honestly don't even remember. I broke it. So, lesson learned and $30 later for some part that I rarely use anyways. I just didn't want it all floppy (that's what she said).

Small fender bender, I had extra wrap from the install 2 years ago but the truck was faded vs the extra material. Didn't want to spend another big chunk to redo the whole rig.
