Intake Manifold Replacement - Who has done it?

I do not own a eco but do they not make a EGR delete kit for this platform? if so is there any drawbacks? ive been looking at trading in for a newer ram and going eco route for better mpg
 
i would not recommend the ecodiesel if you plan on keeping it. lease okay i guess.

Was this simple for you to do?
No, I wouldn't say this was a simple one. Took me and a mechanic buddy about 8hrs including some snack breaks. Working on this thing sucks.....we are basically laying and sitting in the engine bay. I have a lot more respect for the guys who wrench on these pickups all day long.
For me the worst of it was all the connectors. There are so many plugs. Its easy to get them all sorted and reconnected at the end but many of them were a real pain to disconnect. Hard to reach, impossible to see and each one is a little different. Some of the red latches pull towards the back, some to the side, some don't have any. Needed to take the driver side wheel well liner out to get to one since the latch was stuck. The glow plug connectors suck, ended up breaking one but still seems to be on there.

I'm here for the long haul. We will see how long it goes! Honestly so far its been a great ownership experience. Ordered it new and I'm now 127k miles in. This was my first repair, other issues were covered by recalls.

Big fan of “I Do Cars” channel. Eric does a tear down every Saturday night, would highly recommend his channel to any gear heads. He’s done 2 Ecodiesels so far, both were second gen though I believe. Ugh, modern (emissions systems intact) diesels can hold a lot of carbon in them.
 
The emissions stuff sucks for sure and its a shame its required. Previous gen had issues for sure with egr coolers and rod bearings. My theory based on how I see dealers operate is a lot of these ecodiesels just weren't maintained well by them. Probably wrong oil types, overfilled, underfilled and so on. Then people push the intervals which doesn't help. Something else I notice is a lot of people just think because its a diesel that it can just do it all, pull 15k lbs and go forever. That's not the case with these little baby diesels.
 
Where is the Map sensor located ? I'm having trouble finding it on my 2020. I see the EGR tube but not the map sensor is it hidden?
 
I just did this job. It was intimidating for sure. But it's done now. Code was for swirl valves, used the dorman intake. I did not have to remove the fuel rails or accompanying lines to the Injectors. Do have to remove the fuel line that crosses over rail to rail. The wire harness is a pita, clips too. Took lots of pics and kept things organized. Topside creeper, good lights, T30 torx, long needle nose pliers, pen size extension magnet, right-angle 1/4 drive adapter, 1/4 rachet wrench, 19mm fuel inj socket, 1/4 wobble extension set...think thats all for the more useful tools beyond the regular 8 and 10mm stuff. My intake was surprisingly clean. One side of the intake was not moving with the bevel gear.

Nicely done! I'm not sure how you managed to get that out or back in without taking that driver side fuel rail off. I fought with it for a while but before starting the job I made the mini torx tool needed so i just took the rail off.

Also just googled top side creeper.......that would of made this soo much easier. I bet half my efforts were climbing into the engine bay, finding a comfortable spot and 5 min later getting out to stretch. I just spend the week down in Arkansas, the weather was awesome!

This was on a 2020 ram with the 3rd gen motor. Not sure if that made the difference with getting the intake out without removing the fuel rail. Vs the earlier fen. I read everywhere you have to take the rails off..
