I had that happen to me once, but I religious give the tailgate a tug now to be certain. On my 2020 2500 Tradesmen (work beast) the tailgate really likes to fool you when you hear the click. I pull on it once it's good, but the second one sometimes let's go. It's like the latching mechanism...
I agree with your sentiment but my CM9 doesn't have a safety so, keeping one out of the chamber is an excellent safety practice. Plus the .3 seconds it takes to push that down before pulling it out isn't going to make a difference if someone already has the jump on you.

This is what I use - it's fantastic. I have it on the last bit of flat part of the lower area to the right side of my knee area. It screws in with 4 small screws, but it's fantastic. Let's you push down to chamber a round before you pull it...

I leased a 2020 Ram 1500 Bighorn 4x4 (level 2 I believe) in May. I can't recall the sticker price. Lease was for 42 mo. 10k / year in miles, and I pay $459 a month. I can't tell if that's a good deal or not lol.
If you don't mind me asking - how much did you pay for that? I'm not too terribly far away (a few hour drive) and was considering? I currently just bought a DK2 Everest but I'm not sure if I want to keep that or get something a little more robust.
