Well, problem solved... Ram 1500 is out, in is a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 SLE double cab 6.6 gasser. Towing 14500 and 5 wheel 18200. Now i don't have to worry about 9000 lbs.
As expected, the 2500 rides a little rougher. My 1500 was very smooth, fun to drive. The 2500 is nice, but I wouldn't say...
Payload is 1767 lbs. Cargo weight, including me and one passenger is about 600 lbs. As long as I keep the cargo at or below that, I could theoretically tow max trailer weight... but that's definitely not something I want to do.
Thanks everyone! I figured that would be a difference, but it's more that I thought.
Well... it's either a 2500 or towing a max of 7500 lbs. I've seen posts here saying it handles 7500 just fine.
I have zero experience towing above 3000 lbs with my 1500. My heavy towing experience is with a CDL, but that was a different animal.
Based on all the various numbers, I can tow 9000 lbs with my 1500 and still be under the max. My question is: would anything feel "better" towing that weight...
Cool, I'll check them out. They did a great job on your truck!
Same thing here with America's Tire. Have had only good experience with them and they entertained all my questions and changes of mind over the years.
Did you modify your truck? If yes, where did you do it? I had my Jeeps modded at Rebel Off Road, as well as a Tacoma, but always interested to find other places.
Interesting... I was just looking at the Rough Country liners, but I guess they are out of question. I bought the truck used so I don't know exactly what I have.
I went to the Icon site and was looking for contact info, and found the installation document: https://images.iconfigurators.app/pdf/I216533_REVB_5430.pdf
The image below matches the bushings and washers, and you can see the raised profile where my red arrow is, with the much higher raised...
You are right, the angle of the bushing fits the washer. I should have seen that...
I was confused by the fact that the other side of the bushing, the narrow shoulder, doesn't really fit anything. The frame ear hole diameter is larger than that shoulder. I guess they want to connect the two...
I bought those rear Icon shocks specifically for 5th gen 1500
Security Check
If you look at the attached photos, you'll see it has flattened sections on both sides (talking about the small diameter, with the red arrow, not the big flat sections below). They seem to be useless, since the truck...
Thanks, I'll check it out. Putting in the long bolts was actually pretty easy, I just pulled on the air dam until the bolts cleared it.
However, things will get tight when I put in the tow hooks. It will be good to have some extra space to tighten those smaller bolts.
I found the bolts in store at another dealership closer to me, so I just bought them and put them in. Since the truck has the open bezels for tow hooks, someone must have removed the hooks and never put the bolts back in. (Who the heck would do that... "meh, just some really long bolts, don't...
