For anyone that's installed an air or train horn, where did you put the control button?

My first choice is to avoid just connecting it to the factory horn/steering wheel control. But I also want it readily available - I don't want to be searching for a button if I'm in a situation where I need a quick blast.

Are you using all your homelink buttons?

When I had a train horn setup on my old truck, I put in a switch where I could use the steering wheel horn button for both horns. This way I could just flip the switch when I didn’t want to use the train horn.

Really like this idea - possible to get a little more information?

Careful here, some states have passed laws against having a "sound device" that is not in keeping with the vehicle. Mainly for sirens but I know a guy who had a train horn on his motorcycle (in California). He got pulled by a cop and they made him cut all the wiring right there.

It’s been quite a few years back, so I can’t remember exactly how I did it, but I had the switch where one position of the switch allowed the button to run power to the train horn and the other position ran power to the factory horn. I believe it would be a double-pole double-throw switch.

TEXAS

(d) A warning device, including a horn, may not emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound or a whistle.

Sounds subjective to me. I never had an issue with mine, but I didn’t use them a lot. Mostly when messing with my friends/co-workers and when actually needed. I did have the switch set to the train horns when I set my alarm. That was a car alarm that NOBODY ignored. GUARANTEED! I wanted anyone trying to break into my truck to leave a DNA sample behind.

I'm a DIY and wired up my reverse lights, auxiliary reverse lights and some tail gate lights with a DPDT switch.
I don't know if this will refresh your memory on DPDT switch.

I believe a SPDT switch would work for flipping between the 2 horns. But like you it is 5 years since I wired up these lights.
