The HEMI V8 Is Back: 2026 Ram 1500 Brings Power and Choice

Yeah for bringing back the Hemi.
Boooo, for ET.
Booo for ugly badge. :D

My 2 cents is it won't really help unless they address the price tag issue.

All they need is the normal incentives that all big truck manufacturers (except Toyota) offered before the Covid Market, pre-2020.

I'm talking about 15% off the bat, and 25% during end of quarter sales, which was normal for decades and big part of the truck buying process.

2026 Ram 1500 HEMI V8 Returns With eTorque And Bold New Strategy

Ram is officially bringing back one of the most iconic engines in modern truck history. After widespread backlash over discontinuing the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 for the 2025 model year, Ram has announced the return of the legendary engine for the 2026 Ram 1500 lineup.

The decision to reinstate the HEMI wasn’t made in a boardroom vacuum; it was sparked by overwhelming demand from loyal customers. According to Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis, the brand is not only acknowledging the mistake of removing the V8 but also turning that misstep into a rallying point.

I just wish they would bring it back without E-Torque!

Sure pay more for the GT exhaust sound and get less Horsepower,Torque and efficiency.

That's assuming you don't have to deal with the engine lights these Hurricanes seem to be having right now. Then there is the question of their long-term durability, the 5.7L Hemi isn't perfect but its issues are well known as is it's general durability.

Seeing as how most of the lights and issues with the 2025 trucks were mostly software related, whose to say the 2026 with the Hemi won't have the same software issues? They are using a completely different canbus architecture than the ,24 and older.

Totally agree, I mean they did a very last minute integration with the Hemi, and Stellantis right now wouldn't surprise me with that, I guess we'll see.

However, the other part of the concern equation which is twin turbos on a relatively new engine design still stands.

Yeah, with a stupid Battery sitting on top of the engine called eTorque, that does nothing for saving gas, I had on the 2023 Limited, you can KEEP it.

Will admit would take the Hemi any day over any turbo, but Hemi + eTorque really makes me ponder the situation.
Extra cost and maintenance without any significant advantage.
At least the SSO is providing an advantage for the potential extra maintenance.

Still, you can keep it, it has a 40-volt battery. Correct, it is so they can get a carbon discount at the end of the year,it does nothing, as for gas mileage, it is a hunk of crap waste.
Then don't buy one. Yes it's for CAFE ratings. It's actually one of the better start/stop systems on the market because it doesn't use the starter to restart the engine. Would I own one, no. But that the beauty of customer choice.

IIRCC the etorque is epa rated at 1mpg around town more than the regular hemi. I don’t know how real life that works out but from a corporate viewpoint that is a huge deal.
I have an etorque but share concerns about longevity issues of the system and would prefer a non-etorque. My around town mileage is supposed to be 18. I get 14.3 in my stock 22 rebel. Not impressed.

I just traded my 2023 Longhorn with the eTorque and got a 2025 6-cylinder 3.0 twin turbo. My gas mileage is superb

My Hurricane HO has big difference in mileage. Around home, in the country with hills and backroads, I’m lucky to see 16. And that’s driving as easy as I can. Which I really hard with this truck!
On the interstate I can get 23. What a difference!

Within sane levels, I get better mileage in my Hemis if I put my foot into it a bit. Might be true for the new engine too. Don't go to "ticket-me" levels but get up to speed already.
