What did you do to your Ram today???

RCI skid plate. Engine section was made wrong, so I put the factory skid back on. See what they say. If they want me to pay shipping to fix their mistake I will either re-drill it myself or keep the factory one on.

What UConnect version are you on?

the most current one... whatever it is lol
it updated like a while back but never had that even on the Flagstaff trip for Labor Day.

IIRC, I found a setting in the Uconnect (on my '25) to turn off showing directions in the EVIC (or whatever it's called now).

I don't care to see directions there AND on the Uconnect screen, so I turned that setting off. Now I don't get directions from Apple Maps, either.

i enabled it when i first got the truck back in late 2022 because... i paid for UC5 and i wanted to try everything. it only worked with Apple Maps this whole time until this past weekend I discovered it now works with Google Maps (my preferred on-road navigation app).

i probably will end up turning it off since I got a 12in screen in the middle with full Google Map telling me where to go lol

Where did it not fit properly. I am looking at vice or rci and would like help deciding. I e read that rci doesn’t fit right for non rebel trims

Which is your preferred off roading one?
I use Gaia on my motorcycles and f150/jkur, using an iPad in the ford and the jeep. Can I display gaia on my 12.1 screen?

I've found CarPlay has a FAR better integration with Uconnect. Full screen maps and cluster turn by turn. Both things android auto does not do. Kind of sad to see Google falling behind like this.

Non-Rebel doesn't make a difference with the portion under the engine. I have the same factory skid plate as used on the Rebel. The holes lined up if I put it on upside down, but the bends were wrong then. The front holes that mount the skid are on the left on the frame and on the right on the RCI skid. The rear holes are backwards too.
I wish I bought the Vice skid.

I'm guessing it was a manufacturing mistake and whoever put it on the metal brake to make the beds had it upside down.

I completely get that man, I know mine is going to have her head shoved in the shower curtain looking at me but ever now and then it is a bit shocking to she her staring at me when I am done rinsing my face.

No - only for off road use. I'm hoping to make it back to Colorado and hit some mountain trails again someday

i use Gaia and briefly used OnX.

I used Gaia on iPhone circa 2020 and that was quite a lot of processing needed to run GMap, Gaia, Spotify, Camera, all at the same time. So I got myself a cheapo Samsung Android Tablet (I think Tab A 7?) and it worked great for a year or so until the eventual android slowing down issue. It lagged when following the route, but was borderline unusable when trying to type.

From 2021-2024 I stuck with the Tab A, until prior to my trip to Alaska last year I was sponsored an iPad mini 6. It worked great, but I ran into issues downloading map layers after downlaoding the layers of my route through CA, OR, WA, BC, YT, AK, NWT, AB, MT, ID, UT, NV, and AZ. I think it was an iOS update that F it up or something, but I got it to work eventually.

Now, during my debacle with Gaia and iPad Mini 6 post trip (and right when I was about to leave for a nother 3 days 2 nights trip), I decided I had enough of this bull and tried OnX. Paid for a year's subscription and then learned I CANNOT download may layers like I do with Gaia. With Gaia, I usually mark the area that spans the route and the entire area of where I'm going, and download it (which usually is quite large area and large data).

That doesn't work with OnX. With OnX, the service limits the area that you can mark for map download, and then you'll have to piece them together. It is kind of like when you download offline maps for Google Maps. Same ideas. So because of that, I only used OnX once and scrapped it.

Can you use Gaia with the 12" display? Yes, you absolutely can! They make it Carplay compatible. HOWEVER, it didn't work well for me. The map orientation was wrong, sometimes the marked route doesn't show up, there's lag time (as in, running it on the 12" display and tablet at the same time, tablet shows real time movement/ location while 12" display lags 2 seconds or so behind), the control is not as intuitive as it is on tablet. I tried this before getting the iPad as I was tired of the lag on the android tablet, and to be honest it was even worse.

This was back in early 2024 so things may have changed with new updates, etc.

RCI is a more well-known and proven brand in the offroading world.
I'm sure they'll take care of you.

I guess I should have worded it better. It fits but the fit and finish isn’t as refined on rhe non-rebel.

My point is the portion showed in your pic that hangs down below the front bumper does not look like that or sit low like that in the rebels. Sure it bolts in and “fits” but I would think that skid hanging like that is a great place for a rock/ boulder get hung up on when approaching.


As boogerlander pics show the rebel tucks it up under with the lower bumper fascia or oem “skid” .

I see what you mean. Another reason I should have gone with Vice. I would rather hit a rock with the skid than have the fixed and motorized air dams get ripped off!

Went to a camping event hosted by Toyo Tires over the weekend.
Noticed somehow I get direction on the dash now when using Google Maps... previously this was only limited to using Apple Maps.
Not sure how I feel about that.
