Looking to Buy - 6 vs 8 cylinder?

I’m a rookie so apologize in advance if this is a silly question. Looking to make a new purchase. Do I grab a 2025 with the 6 banger or do I build a 2026 with the v8 coming back? Any general consensus on here amongst the gang of which is better/preferred? Pros and cons of each? Thanks in advance.
The Hurricane has some power , but they are pushing a small in line 6 so hard , it is only a 3.0 , I would go V8

It's not being pushed that hard. It's not a standard N/A engine that they put a turbo on. It was purpose built for boost, and a factory engine with a warranty is tuned to be safe and reliable. Not at the ragged edge.

I don't understand this logic at all. Some of you act as though they slapped a turbo on an N/A engine and called it good. 500+HP turbo 4&6 cylinders have been mainstream for more than 20+ years now.
An NA engine trying to make 500 hp will have more stress on it than am engine designed for boost. NA engines need RPM to make power and in the hemi's case or any other in block cam N/A V8, with OHV's a valetrain that can take the abuse which is more often than not the cause of failure; where are most of the hemi failures? Valvetrain related.

Glad you are happy they are still pushing a very small 6 to hard , just my take.
If he has 640hp, that means he did a tune to up the boost and get even more hp out of it. Limited gets 540hp stock. And I am more than pleased with my 420hp in my Laramie. As far as the standard output hurricane, I wouldn't consider 420hp to be anywhere near pushing the limits of a 3.0 liter tt motor.

You realize that an engine only makes peak power at the top of its respective power curve - typically fairly high RPM (eg north of 5k rpm) and then only for a short period of time - a few moments- right? So even if you could argue that the hurricane is over stressed - and I agree with others who think this argument lacks merit when applied to an engine designed from the beginning for turbocharging — most of the time any engine is really just loafing along making only a modest fraction of peak power.

The reality for most owners is that a well maintained hurricane (or hemi) will outlive the rest of the truck, even if (heaven forbid!!!) one follows the factory oil viscosity recommendation.

Coming from a 3.5eb, I test drove a BH 3.0 so Sunday. Not a fan. I am sure it will be a great motor and I wanted to like it but I found it very unresponsive compared to my eb. Now my eb has 65k on it and ford has about a billion miles of inroad test and tune on them and maybe an 8 mile hurricane has nanny controls but couldn’t bring myself to buy it. And it was 20k below msrp.
For the same price I got a 20k mile mint 2022 rebel. Certified preowned have a better powertrain warranty than the 25s also.

Ford designed its eb motors from the ground up to go at least 250k and stress tested may in continuous operation to past that level.
FCA has done the same thing with the hurricane. It was designed from the ground up to put out much more power than it does in SO form.
They had plenty of success with the 4 cyl turbos.

Ford did a great job with the 3.5 eco boost and has improved it continuously each generation since it came out in ‘09 or so. Hopefully Stellantis follows this model.

SST HO makes amazing HP but also low end torque and better MPG. No brainer as long as longevity holds up. All of the three cars/trucks I own are twin turbo and have been totally reliable. It is a great engine.

still pushing a small motor to the max , last I will say on it.

I have to say, I’m having trouble reconciling your username and your anti-turbo sentiments.

Of course your opinions and exchanges are welcome, I just can’t tell if you are an RHO fan?

Have you had a bad experience with an RHO?

Then you don't understand how engines are engineered and built; this isn't a 1970 slant six that they slapped a turbo on. This is a reinforced block with forged internals and sophisticated engine management to keep the pistons happy, not a blow through jetted up carb engine.

He clearly has zero understanding of modern mechanics.

I've owned a 2014 with the 5.7, put 150K on it without much issue, traded it for a 2022 again with the 5.7 and kept it until last year. My dealer offered me a trade on a 2025 Laramie with the standard SST 3 liter and it has more power than the old 5.7. I don't tow with it or haul heavy loads. With the 3.55 rear end it spins 2000 RPM at 80 mph and cruises like a luxury car. The power is deceiving-almost no noise except when you mash it from a standing start-the only thing I hear is the tires lighting up. Did that twice just to confirm the smile on my face. Other than that its a fun ride. The HO 3 liter sounds like a lot of fun but the standard output works just fine by me.

understand fully tear down that V8 and tear down that INLINE 6 at 50k and tell me what it looks like still a thin walled motor,
If maintained properly, they will both still look as good as the day they left the assembly line internally
