MobilFluid LT for the BW 48-11 (4Auto) transfer case

Thx for the info. I have no doubt you heard what you heard from AMSoil, but I do highly doubt what they said. The Borg Warner spec calls for mobilfluid LT, so seems like circular logic. More likely, the guy didn’t know anything more than some story somebody told him, that in reality, wasn’t true (and he or she just didn’t know any better).

I used to be a fan of AMSoil, but have come to be skeptical of their integrity. More and more I see carefully worded comparisons and highlights of only certain obscure specs (we flow better than X - but measured at -40), and now no longer use AMSoil. Their unwillingness to submit to outside bodies for some important certifications sealed the deal. I’ve come to use Red Line more, and a few euro-made brands (where synthetic really means synthetic, not like here).

But each his own...
AMSOIL would rather put the excessive amount of money(think the dexos money farm) they would spend on outside certifications into developing their products. They have obtained some manufacturer approvals, but only where it made sense to do so. There are also cases where AMSOIL so greatly exceeds specifications in design that it can't qualify for some certifications or standards.
That -40 number is where all oils are rated for cold weather performance, it is a standard test that is performed. It is usually an indication of a higher quality base stock being used.

FWIW all of the Signature Series oils and Severe Gear fluids are true, 100% synthetic oils and include various group IV and V base stocks.
I agree that the US legal system and oil companies made a joke out of the term synthetic, and it makes it that much easier for the oil companies to screw over customers that think they are getting a better oil when they may not be.

Yeah...I see that only 2019 calls for the BW 44-44/45 fluid and all 2020 plus call for the Mobil Fluid LT. Which if what I'm reading is correct, the BW 44-44/45 fluid is the exact same thing.
It's a tractor fluid...So I'm going with they are band aiding the transfer case and not fixing the root issue.

That Mobilfluid LT is ridiculously priced.

I was planning on doing the diffs and T-case, but still unsure about using the RED LINE lists MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 as a substitute.
Amsoil is showing their ATF when I use the lookup tool. Not sold on that either, but I will be using their 75W-85 & 75W-90 for the diffs, and since the 75W-90 contains the friction modifier I don't need to buy the Mopar ms-1011.

In all honesty though, it's kind of hard to ignore the BlauParts package that uses Ravenol for a grand total of $180 for everything. The Ravenol for the T-case is ATC BW-44, which I've heard nothing about in comparison to specs on the Mobil LT fluid.

Thoughts on the Ravenol option? For those of you that used Redline/Amsoil ATF, how's it holding up? I'm really just tempted to buy the Mobilfluid LT and have that peace of mind thing going on.

But can anyone specify which is the correct fluid for the BW48-11? Is it 68089195AA or 68049954AC?

I'm looking into this tonight, as AMSOIL sold me MV ATF for use in my BW48-11 (Which I'm assuming that's what I have, as I have the 4WD Auto option on my shifter).

I looked on the Mopar Parts site (https://store.mopar.com/transmission-and-transfer-case-assemblies) and found this, going through the parts:

68089195AA (listed on Mopar site for BW48-12 - Look underneath the part number, and it says "Browse more BW4812; transfer case) - $55 Qt

68049954AC (listed on Mopar site for BW48-11 - Look underneath the part number, and it says "Browse more BW4811; transfer case) - $61.70 Qt

AMSOIL product sheet says their MV ATF can be used for Specifications:
68089195AA (BW48-12)
68049954AA (BW48-11)
But 68049954AC replaced the 68049954AA listed above for BW48-11... so I'm thinking the MV ATF AMSOIL sold me should be good to go for my BW48-11.

All the best,
Glenn

I've had redline in my tcase for a little over 20,000 miles now. I just used valvoline synthetic in my diffs. I use auto when it rains but not much past that. Occasionally when I wanna have some fun as well. Operation of my 4wd system is still going well. Plan on another change in 20-25k miles (45k mile intervals). So will really see then.

That's the info I found as well. I'm just going to grab the expensive Mopar stuff for the T-Case and be safe. I'll likely use Amsoil 75w-85 and 75w-90 for the difs. I would use something like Valvoline but they don't have a 75w-85 so I'll just spring for the "good stuff". It's very likely there will be little to no difference if I used 75w-90 in both. Maybe a 0.01 hit on MPG. Same goes for the MV ATF that Redline and Amsoil recommend. I'm sure it would be fine especially with my religious changes.

I have am planning for September on the changes so we'll see how much I feel like spending when the time comes. That will put me around 30k and then I'll inspect at 50k again, likely pushing to 60k before I do another change. I'd usually do around 40-50k changes but I know doing every 30-40k now is the same time frame for me as it used to be on the 40-50k changes so it's just peace of mind and busy work to keep me occupied every 3 or 4 years lol.

Thanks for all the info!
