Damn clunk. I’m lost

Ohio?? That’s the heart man!
It’s at the dealership i bought it from for 30k service and the alignment. They’re gonna poke around but I did show them the video. I also checked out my step daughters laramie that’s setup very similar to mine. Cv on hers doesn’t wiggle as much as mine. Wondering if it’s that intermediate shaft.

Also my dumbarse somehow managed to get a lug stuck. I swear I thread them on by hand and then torque. Never tighten with my oogy doogy. So the dealership is cutting that off and putting in a new stud.

hey if the dealer is willing to take a look at it then let them hahaha
maybe they can crack this case

They said the inspection showed nothing loose or broken. Of course it isn’t a full diagnostic.

Curious, how much play should cv axles have? I noticed mine seem pretty noisy when I yank on them.

mine doesn't do that :unsure::unsure:

If i remove just the uca, tie rod and lower shock mount to remove the axle and replace the stub, do i need an alignment afterwards?

Might be dumb idea, but any chance it’s the driveshaft slip yoke bind/clunk happening at strange times. Also, many years ago I used chassis ears for some clunks, see where it’s the loudest to hone in on. ($110)

no you shouldn't need to. UCA angle is fixed, and the LCA mount on the frame side is not touched. you should be fine alignment-wise

thanks for the info man. I’m waiting for an estimate to see what the dealership would charge, but it’s a 70 dollar part and honestly not hard to do myself. I’m just still recovering from this nerve in my neck.

if it's not too much just have them do it, that way if something is still not right you can get them to fix it.
get your nerve/ neck right first before trying to do it yourself. you ain't getting paid to do it (it's not what you do for a living) so not worth it. been there done that myself, but it's because i have no choice because appointment book is full lol
now i'm only 33 but i feel like im 53 with all sorts of body ache and soreness lol

Well I’ve been talking with my service advisor and he gave me a ballpark. He has to confirm the labor is right. I’m suppose to hear back today but if I don’t hear I’ll probably just order it and do it.
I think part stores near me even have it.

I hear guys lubing up those splines, is that necessary? Always thought they installed dry.

i lube everything lol
if it's moving part or metal on metal then I lube it.

I had a weird clunk I had to chase down for a long time, 2 different shops couldn't find it. Ended up just being lose rear control arm bolts. Only happened when stopping, or moving from a dead stop.

Ok verdict is in. Clunk is gone.

Long story short.
Replaced upper and lower control arms, tie rods, cv axles, sway bar bushings and end links… clunk was still there.
Replaced body mounts and put on suspensionmaxx end links. Still clunkin.
Replaced body mounts again, this time with trx mounts and absorbers… some of the clunk was still there.
I learned how to replicate it again and started yanking on things.
Had dealership change the drivers stub shaft as it felt wiggly and made a smilisr noise to what I heard. The clunk i heard backing out of my driveway was gone.
But, hard accelerate and hard stop braking to make the truck articulate still produced a clunk.

Now for the embarassing part that I hope saves atleast one other person….
I popped the panel off the passenger under seat and re-oriented the tire iron and tightened the yellow bolt that holds the jack. Clunk no more.

My dads going to have a field day because he told me the bowling ball story about 8 times through my diagnosing journey.

it's always the thing that nobody thought of (i mean logically hahaha) that caused all the problems.
