REV vs Ramcharger - who would buy a REV?

No argument from me on this. But how many of these buyers do you honestly think there are? Obviously there aren't enough of them judging by the amount of money Ford and Chevy are losing on EV truck sales. Urban guys wanting a truck for commuting who also want that truck to be electric seems like a pretty small part of the market, even if you include the urban gals wanting an electric truck for their commute.
Hence why RAM pushed back the REV production in favor of the RAM charger

I guess if you have the disposable income it's something to have. At least it's not a CyberTruck.
Those urban guys would still be better served by the Ramcharger. It’s got plenty of EV range for zero-gas commuting, and has the total range when you need it (towing, hauling, road trips).

By my estimates, the 350 mile REV (the only one still planned) will have a battery 880 pounds heavier than the one in the Ramcharger (168kWh vs 93kWh). For comparison, the 3.6L Pentastar weighs about 330 pounds as an ICE. 23 gallons of gas weighs 138 pounds. Even factoring in the weight of the fuel tank, dynamo, and other components, the Ramcharger should come out ahead on weight.

That extra 75kWh of battery capacity isn’t free, either. Goldman Sachs predicted $111/kWh by the end of 2024. Let’s discount that to $100 for 2025. That puts the extra battery cost at $7,500. Surely Ram’s added cost for the Pentastar and related components is less than that.

The two are about equal in power and torque (663/615 for Ramcharger, 654/620 for REV), but the Ramcharger will have nearly twice the range (690 vs 350), likely weigh and cost less, and still have plenty of EV range for daily commutes. What’s not to like? I guess you miss out on a frunk.

Ram’s already canceled the 500 mile REV. It wouldn’t be crazy to cancel the REV altogether.

Well, you guys are going to be paying a lot more for oil and gas in a short hurry if the don gets his way. Tarrifs incoming.
.
We'll all be paying more for electricity, too. Not necessarily having to do with the incoming administration, just the realities of the post-pandemic world where nearly every single thing in our lives just keeps getting more expensive by leaps & bounds.
.

I am not sure how old this article is on the Ram Charger from Car and Driver
.
I think it should be a federal law that every article posted to the internet has to show the date it was originally posted and the date of any subsequent updates. In fact, having opened the link you posted and found no sign of any date for it, I decided to boycott Car & Driver and that author so I just closed the link. It's irresponsible to not include date & time for every posting.

The plan is to drill here, instead of shipping it in. Therefore, no tariff. 🙂

Don't you guys know anything about your own economy? You literally cannot produce the oil that is needed (in large part), Alberta and Venezula and Middle East are the only known sources of this thick crude oil produced in Alberta. The specific refineries in the USA that use this oil cannot just be swapped over to refine the oil you produce.

Secondly; we're each others largest trading partners. If you think you're going to slap a 25% tarriff on all Canadian imports with no effect on your life then you really do sleep well at night. YOU as Americans are going to be hurt by this, Canada doesn't pay for the tarrifs, it's an import tax, whoever in the US is buying Canadian materials/products/services is going to pay this tax, and pass it on down to you.

Whatever, we'll see what happens but Americans might be without electricity in a few northern states for a while. 🤷‍♂️

@silver billet is right.

US refineries cannot refine US oil, as bizarre as that sounds. Over 40% of the oil the US imports comes from Canada. A tariff on Canadian oil absolutely will hit you at the pump.

Just a reminder, we're supposed to avoid politically-related stuff here on 5thgenrams, that's one of the beauties of this site, and it's starting to head that way in this thread.

I'm not intending to make an issue out of this, it was just a comment showing how volatile the gas/electric debate is when it comes to cars and it can change yearly.

But there is nothing in the rules about avoiding politics. Just "excessive or inflammatory political comments in an otherwise apolitical thread" (which lets be honest, its hard to avoid politics in an ice/electric thread).

I’ll take blame for that.

I just mentioned “the next 4 years”. I forgot that term tends to trigger some disagreements. I’ll refrain from doing that in the future and stick to the political meme/rants thread.

I'm not intending to make an issue out of this,
And yet you are. If you weren't intending to make an issue out of this you would have apologized and moved on. See Dewey's post for a perfect example of not making an issue.

"I'm not intending" = "I have no intention of continuing this discussion". Now if you'd stop trying to drag me back, into this we can all exit the discussion, thanks. I'm not Dewey, I'm not you, I'll do and write as I see fit.
