What’s the oil pressure range these trucks should be sitting at in Idle and while driving. I just got a oil change and it seems high for me

At hot idle, fully up to temp, expect as low as 29-30 psi.

Did you have a picture of your screen with all 4 digital main temps (oil press, oil temp, trans temp & coolant)?

Depending on the oil temp, even at idle that may be normal. But after driving about 10 miles or so, it should be down to 30 psi at idle.

This is assuming you have a hemi?

It’s pretty up to temp. I do recall before this oil change I was sitting at low 30s at idle and low 50s while driving.. I’ll keep an eye on it, it hit 59 earlier while driving.

That's about right. 220F on the oil temp, which is normal hot idle, such as sitting in slow moving traffic or drive through, with zero throttle should get you about 30 psi. The temps I see there are at the low range of "at temp" operation.

You are at 34 psi at just under 200F, seems about right. 59 psi while on throttle also seems normal to me.

Hot day today and just noticed my oil pressure is very low. Is this normal?

I’m used to seeing well above 40 psi.

I have personally never seen anything below 29 psi on my truck, however everything I've seen a read says the normal Hemi low psi can get as low as 25 psi with hot idle.

what is it when cruzing?
Mid 40’s which is normal. Just never seen that low at idle. Obviously heat soaked but oil temperature wasn’t much higher than normal.

Still within operational range, but just in case, did you check your oil level?

Upper level of safe range. Exactly where it was after I changed the oil about a month ago.

Gotcha, it could also just be a variation within the sensor itself. From 26 - 29 is barely anything. I know this is a recent change you didn't see before, but if you don't see any performance issues, leaks, etc. I would just keep an eye on it going forward, if it stays within range, I wouldn't worry about it.

FWIW, according to Jimmy07, the resident expert on all the electronics in these trucks the oil pressure displayed on the dash is not actually the oil pressure. It's a calculated value based on engine temp, RPM, and a few other sensors.

Wasn't there another person that showed it was actually a real sensor?

There was someone that shows a parts diagram showing an oil pressure sensors but pretty sure that's basically just a go/no go sensor and will only pop a code if you lose oil pressure all together.

Gotcha, makes sense.

But generally speaking for actual oil pressure, the accepted minimum is 10psi for every 1000rpm is "safe"

I found out a few years ago, when I had a Saab 9-7x as a beater to save miles on a lease. ( It's a Chevy Trailblazer, but with a much better interior.) All the gauge displays are computer generated. The computer sends the signals to the gauge, so it reads good, or bad. They just look better than idiot lights. I thought I had a problem, because my temp gauge quickly jumped to hot. I thought I over heated. I found out, if the temperature doesn't change withing the specified time parameter, it just shows it's over heating. It was just one random time that the warm time was out of parameter, and never happened again.

Plenty of pressure at cruising speed.
👍🏻

I'm not saying I agree with it, but the manual says 4 psi minimum at idle. Just scroll all the way to the very bottom, page 12.
