That looks good!! I want to paint the "beadlock" on my wheels to black but it'll be a pain to do it right.
Thanks! I was about to paint the rings on my wheels this copper color but decided not to at the last second. Surprisingly it’s very easy to mask the wheels off with tape. From there you’d need to remove all the bolts, cover the holes with something (I rolled up little cylinders of tape and stuck them in), then you’d want to rough up the paint on the ring just a little bit with maybe a scotchbrite pad, apply a 2 part epoxy primer, then color, then for best results use a 2k clear coat. You can for sure do everything for under $100 and get good results as long as you have a decent amount of experience with spray paint👍🏼 it’s a time consuming process for sure though!

I have been in customer service for over 20 years, and while I can appreciate the extra service, if I had been in the situation(doing the service for the customer) I would have asked the customer if he wanted it washed as I would noted it was clean. If they still wanted it washed, cool if not cool, there is no guessing and the customer is happy.

In short, I totally get where your coming from and that is great to advocate for continued customer service, but I see OP point of view and there is a lot of expense in having your vehicle ceramic coated so I would a bit annoyed as well.
Oh I totally get the OPs whining, don't get me wrong. I just don't think the attendant should be faulted either.

If the policy is that an oil change is accompanied by a car wash, then, in the absence of documented refusal of that service, it is reasonable to assume that the vehicle owner is complicit to the policy.

If anyone is to be blamed, it's the OP....but I'm not looking to place blame, just advocating for the kid who is working part time at the dealership to finish up his degree and is making sure that he crosses all his Ts.

Cuz lord knows that he can't afford to lose this job, or his baby mama is gonna lose her wig.

I think maybe there is a disconnect here.

I did not know they were going to wash it. They didn't tell me they were going to wash it, much less ask. I paid for an oil change. They did ask me if I wanted the complimentary tire rotation, to which I said yes.

I'm not clear on how anyone could construe any part of this situation to be my fault.

Further, it seems to be pretty commonly recognized that the automatic car wash machines (at least, the ones that use the big roller brushes, like this dealer's does) DO put fine scratches on any car's paint. It's not something you would necessarily notice after 1 wash. But, if you look at two identical cars, one that is put through one of those machines once a month for a year, and the other properly hand washed once a month for a year, you WILL be able to see the difference in fine scratches in the paint. Especially if you look at the roof and see all the long straight scratches left by the roller that goes over the top. Yes, you would need to examine them with a light at the right angle, but if you look, the difference is very obvious.

I think any auto service professional should be expected to know that those automatic machines do create fine scratches. So, I think it is completely reasonable to expect an auto service professional to ask or inform the customer before putting their vehicle through such a machine.

Yes, this is first world problems - which is why I didn't raise a huge ruckus at the dealership. In theory, my ceramic coating should have protected my paint from scratches. But, of course, at the expense of the coating taking premature, excess wear. An uncoated vehicle would certainly fare worse. And no, I have not yet examined it closely to see if I can tell. By the time I got home, the water drops all over it from their wash combined with pollen season to turn my nice, black truck into an ugly yellow mess. I need to get it washed again to even tell if there are now scratches under there.

It's just annoying and why I led off why "I'm just whining."

For future reference.. you could tape a piece of paper on the steering wheel that says “do not wash” just to potentially avoid this from happening again in the future. Take a picture of it with your phone just in case. Since advisors don’t always communicate with the tech good enough his eliminates the blame game. One less vehicle getting run through the wash isn’t going to cause a young porter to lose his job lol.

I was just debating on removing the tire... you think it'd be necessary? My spray paint skills are top notch lol

Removing the whole wheel from the truck? Sure that would help so you don’t have to mask the truck! But removing just the tire? Ehh I mean that’s the PROPER way to do it, but I personally wouldn’t go thru all that hassle lol

do u happen to have a write up for this ? im interested in adding this

check the thread, 2021 night edition third brake light, it has a bunch of good info and exactly what you need to do the upgrade. Full disclosure it is a pretty pricey upgrade, but good news is that it is basically plug and play except for the video cable that will need to be ran from back third brake light to front. There is a good infotainment video showing exactly how to do the whole install.
