I changed my front and rear diff oils today with Valvoline 75-90 synthetic. I'm looking into doing the T-case next. 👍

did that last week. super easy and a lot of fun. Don't forget the anti-slip additive Mopar recommends and if you have a different rear-end from standard (mine is 3.92) you have to use a different weight.

I have the 3.21 open diff with e-locker. Doesn't require anti slip additive. Manual says it's 75-90wt. So we're good!👍

Most synthetics have the additive in it already.

SPECS

  • Special limited-slip (LS) additives eliminate/reduce chatter and shudder in limited-slip differentials

Something about the 12.5 tire being too wide for the stock rim and not being able to seal properly.
8.5" - 11" wide rims are generally acceptable for those tires.
I'm pretty sure his wheels are edit: 20 x 9.
Sounds good to me.

I've never heard any noisy diffs using synthetics
I know for fact, if you don't add additional additives on the Chrysler 9.25 with limited slip, it will not work properly. Has nothing to do with noise, but function

I've had that diff in 2 trucks for a total of 325k miles and both worked fine.
Too much LSD additive effects the oils viscosity and decreases oxidative resistance of the oil, which is resistance to oxidation from heat; also causes excessive clutch wear and will burn them up.

On the other hand, too little causes chattering which in turn wears the unit out prematurely or destroys it.
I've got 1000's of passes on my Z06 diff using drag radials
and mobil 1.
I had the diff out for a RPM stage 3 upgrade, diff was perfect, clutches were in great shape but do what works for you.

Hope I didn't offend you, just hoping folks read their manuals instead of just mine or your posts.
Not at all. Before I go through and do any service, I read the manual and get as much info as I can. I've already driven the truck around and it runs fine. No noises from the rear or the front in 4wd. So far truck seems happy.👍👍

You are correct in that the gear oil I used has a additive in it according to Valvoline. However, my 1500 doesn't have the LSD. So the additive isn't required for it.

Well, the diff in your Z06 isn't the same as what Dodge uses. I probably have 1000s of passes on my Dakota R/T. But not sure how straight line drag racing is an indicator of how well a limited slip differential designed for slipping in corners really works

The car is used on road courses at Motorsports Ranch (different set of tires and a coil over adjustment) as well so there's your corners but like I said, the diff was taken apart and the clutches still looked new. As for straight line racing being an indicator, if only one tire is spinning, the LSD ain't working. GM, specially my Z06 uses the same type of clutch pack LSD as Dodge and Ford, not a viscus or a torsen but again, if you want to add the additive, go ahead.

No it doesn't, was only stating that syn's come with it and you had nothing to worry about even if you had an LSD

I love it. This was going to be my first mod when I had a Rebel coming. Never got the Rebel, ended up with a TRX that has a different tailgate logo, so now I have this sitting at my house.

Sir. You cannot put that on a “Rebel.” Unless you’re trying to infliltrate the empire. 😅🤣
