Has anyone tried backing up, or driving with it down? Maybe it doesn't alert you if the truck is stationary. Just a thought.
The small red ajar indication illuminates as soon as the tailgate is lowered.

This indication doesn't come on until you shift into drive.

That's what I needed to know, thank you.

@Idahoktm you weren't kidding, Jimmy knew!

Why would they do this though...I don't get it...?

Jimmy=the man, i don’t know his background or him at all but would hire him soley based on his attention to detail. Jimmy, if you looking to live in south La. Holla.

Dealer says they're gonna take a look and see what they can do for me. So extremely vague lol. Will probably be a while before I can get in there but I'll come back here afterwards.

Ya don't take the dealer's statements as gospel on this. I get no tailgate ajar warning on my 2019 Laramie. Asked dealer about it and their answer was that my truck didn't come with. I accepted that answer. I've since obtained my build sheet online and the ajar warning is listed, so I'll be asking again the next time I'm at the dealer.

Lemme guess, "yeah we can add it for ya but we'll have to replace you're tailgate, that'll be one testicle please"
We put our best tech on it and we figured out that we can't (don't want to) do it. See the cashier on your way out...sorry.

Haha, my dealer has actually never charged me just to check on stuff. They even just do stuff for me sometimes. Was getting a clicking noise from my left front tire, brought it in to check it out. They said there was a nail in it but it didn't go all the way through. Patched it and recommended I replace the tire sooner rather than later. Charged me zero dollars.

Took my Keyfob in cause it had stopped working. They replaced the battery for free. A couple months later it stopped working again, turns out it wasn't the battery, something was wrong with it. They replaced it for free.

This was on vehicles before my Ram. I've been going there for years. When they have to take care of something legit, the labor is certainly not cheap, but they always get it right the first time. Never had a bad experience.

It’s not even a matter of whether or not they’re willing to add the missing parts. They just don’t have the capability to turn the feature on with the scan tool that they use.

That's so odd, that we can get a scanner and some software to activate something the dealership can't.

not really
the dealers have to play by the rules the factory sets out or the franchise agreement might be terminated

after market places are under no such rules.

that is why some dealers remove changes when you go in for another service,

Ahh, that makes sense.

But even if they can just add the hardware without charging me an arm and leg, I can get it activated via AlfaOBD. So that might work out. We'll see.

I'm not expecting anything but I trust these guys. And they won't charge me anything just to tell me what they can or cannot do. Total unicorn CDJR dealership haha.

Finally figured this out. Ajar warning is attached to Level 1 on a Limited. Seems like it should be a base/standard feature but obviously it's not. Still would like to have it if it's not terribly expensive to add.

Think I remember someone saying if you removed tailgate access panel and you only had 2 wires going too passenger side of tailgate you’d have too replace wiring so you had 4 wires
