Why do people despise the "ANC" feature/function so much?

Just curious what the issue is with ANC and why I see so many threads/posts related to disabling it, removing it etc.

I have a 2020 Big Horn 5.7 and pretty sure it has ANC - I see the silver looking module under the driver seat. Driving around, any speed, conditions, never noticed a "problem" - I've just thought "wow this is really quiet and nice". I've had maybe 9 Ram trucks since 2014 - 2500s, Hemis, EcoDiesels, and a 3500. That's not a brag as much as saying I'm pretty familiar with these trucks and never understood why ANC was so frowned upon.

Thanks.

I agree - mine works great, and I appreciate having it. however-
1) some of the early 19's needed an module update to fix constant/repeat loud booming pulse sounds.
2) some folks report that if they added extra subwoofers/amps/etc, the ANC system starts over-reacting and producing all sorts of unwanted hum and stuff

It can also cause issues with louder exhausts. Mine tends to hit a resonant note every now and then at certain RPM's. Not enough for me to try to disable it, but some people could take issue. Other than that I love it. Had a phone call with my dad the other day with the sunroof open, and he said he couldn't tell.

Not sure if it's related, but if I roll my window down at highway speeds, I get this nasty droning sound that make it uncomfortable to the point I just have to roll the window back up.

It drove me nuts during certain situations. When pulling my boat at certain speeds I would get the booming sound that I couldn’t stand. Also at around 30 mph when not pulling I’d get an amplified lugging sound that I couldn’t stand. I figured it was easier to just eliminate it than have a dealer mess with it

If you're just cracking the window then crack a back window or the rear sliding window too. That's the air pressure differential in the cabin more than the ANC.

I was apprehensive at first about this feature on my 2021 Limited, but I have to say it works great. My RAM has the quietest cab of any vehicle I've ever driven.

I don't know why people complain about the ANC, perhaps theirs is malfunctioning.

The term for that is Helmholtz Resonance. It’s an interesting read if you look it up.

I enjoyed my ANC in in my ‘21 ram. I’ve always wondered why people removed it if they were not replacing or adding a sub. Just my opinion and worth the price charged, but I think it’s a case of people thinking they know better than engineers who designed it.

Mine was making odd sounds (wooing like a ghost) and got worse after adding the DU-HA storage bin under the back seat. It's main function is to eliminate drone from the exhaust when MDS kicks in, the gas V6 and Ecodiesel do not have ANC. Since I never use MDS it's function is wasted on me. Also the sound deadening I added to the back of the cab made it more quiet than ANC could achieve

Open the rear sliding window a bit or the rear door windows and that goes away. Its air coming in then rushing to the back of the cab and hitting the rear windows and having no place to go. Every truck I've ever been in does this when just the front windows are open

My ANC has been fine, no issues. For that matter, the entire truck has been fine, no complaints

I haven't had any issues with my truck or ANC either. I will be disconnecting though when I add my amps. Also, per the manual, the ANC system shuts off when a window is open.

When i'm on the highway it sounds like I have a window open but all are closed...
Is that the ANC making the sound of a open window when all are closed?

I also notice my exhaust drones a ton at certain RPMs on the highway louder then if i'm just going around town at the same RPMs.
I have never had a problem with droning exhausts with a Borla before.

I have a Borla exhaust so maybe the ANC just doesn't know wtf to do with the different sound?

Wish there was an easy way to disable it and find out what it's actually doing. I love my noise canceling headphones...
I love the sound of my exhaust but sometimes something just doesn't sound "right"

Works great on my '19 (built summer '18). But I'm still running factory exhaust and H/K sound system.

It doesn't have anything to do with ANC, my 2003 did the same thing and that truck was a flintstone mobile compared to this truck

Correct and that was the point I was making, that ANC is disabled with the windows down.

^^^^ This. Was annoying inside the cab after I installed my MBRP muffler. Put the ANC Bypass in, problem solved! :D
