Finally got a $2k coupon in the mail….too bad I didn’t get it back in March when I was close to coming to an agreement with Aaron….guess it wasn’t meant to be at that time

I ordered a 2022 1500 Limited tonight.

MSRP $71,400
Invoice $65,515
Dealer price $64,750
No incentives available right now.

I didn't negotiate. With dealers asking MSRP or above, I'm happy with $765 under invoice these days. It may not be a great time to buy, but it's a great time to trade. Between buying under invoice and doing very well on my trade I can't complain. It might not be the best deal but I'm happy with it and it works for me.
Who did u purchase from?

@RockJock - if you’d care to share the last 6 digits of your VIN, then I’ll add you to the tracking spreadsheet.

I signed up through the Ram website beginning of the year, and while I’ve gotten $500 or so in the past, this is the highest I got so far

I'm not too worried about Mark Dodge selling my order out from under me. They're the ones that offered near 5% under invoice from the beginning.
Hmmm, in looking at their site, it might have been worth it to drive there and pick one up... I found a bighorn with the 3.92' rear end, tow package and level 2. For about 9 less than what I got here at home. Oh, I've got a bunch of other stuff, quite nice, but that was my core boxes to be checked off. It does NOT have the LED light package, mine does. It is very odd, but in looking at many sites of late, it is difficult to find the 3.92's. And even that one had the 23 gallon tank. The choices of whomever orders these things are often weird. Like mine with the 3.21 but the entire rest of the truck was oriented around towing... AND, My thought is that IF you order the Tow package, the 3.92 should be a part of that package. (sorry for the rant).

I think the "perceived" shortage of 3.92's on my part, if it is valed is a demand thing but I am not sure.

I'm often curious about the selections dealerships make and how often combinations just exist due to parts supplies. I hear ya on the tow thing. I picked 3.21 gears with the tow package because I might pull something larger than a utility trailer or a 4 wheeler twice in the life of the truck. I went with regular use case. The custom order thing was important to me. I do not buy vehicles often, and when I do it's with cash and it's never new. I'm hoping to have this truck for many, many years and it's not planned to be my daily driver I throw miles on.

I have an opportunity to purchase a new 2021 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4WD Ecodiesel. Negotiation is done and all I need to do is sign the paperwork tomorrow morning. It has the Technology Group, Premium Lighting Group, Level 1 Safety Group, Big Horn Level 2, 3.92 rear end, Anti-spin diff and the Uconnect 4C w/Nav system. The price of the new truck is $59,970. They're offering the deal to me at $54,250 out the door which is a little more than 9% off. They are also giving me payoff for my trade which is higher than Carmax and Carvana have offered to purchase it for. It appears to be a good deal. Thoughts?

9% off a Big Horn level trim is probably really good. The higher the trim the more off, at least at Mark Dodge.

I haven't received a VIN yet, but I'll send you the last 6 when I do. I ordered 7-19 over the phone late evening. The order wasn't officially submitted until Tuesday or Wednesday. Sounds like anywhere from 1-3 weeks after order to get a VIN? Maybe last week's shut down will affect the VIN date.

Side note- do you know of any good articles detailing the ordering/production of these trucks and the inner workings of dealers? Now that I've ordered a truck it sparked my curiosity about the process.

Ok, thanks. You should have a VIN soon, it can be as little as 1-2 days. Probably just depends on the FCA computer system (and if they’re holding off on accepting certain orders, depending on the parts outlook).
I’m not aware of any good articles that get into the weeds on dealers. There may be something out there, I just haven’t bothered to look. Side rant: I inherently distrust most things I read from journalists. Not because I’m a foil-hat kinda guy, I’ve just experienced too many instances where I knew the EXACT details of breaking news stories, and had to laugh when the reporters published their stories on it. Laymen shouldn’t be allowed to “dive deep” into subjects they know nothing about.

Spec out the same truck brand new (2022) and see what a volume dealer will give you. If it's the same or cheaper use it as a negotiation tool to buy what's off the lot.
Dumb question but do I spec out the 2022 online or at the dealer? I can only seem to spec out a 2021 online.

You can build a 2022 using the NADA guide.
The pricing was slightly different than the dealer, but it will help you figure out options.
Just search "NADA guide", select the right vehicle and year.

You are easily in Laramie money at that price point. A quick 2022 build on NADA gave me a Laramie 4WD 5'7" bed Ecodiesel with the Laramie Southwest package and 3.92 gears at $60675. A $54k sale price is even getting close to Limited sale price from some dealers.

Here is a link to NADA

Considering the trade part of it in the equation, seems like an acceptable deal in today's market. Big Horn has less markup than higher trim for dealers, but usually have by far the best factory incentives. With incentives not really a thing right now, I would say to see if a Laramie or Limited even is close in price. You are always better with a less optioned higher trim than a better optioned lower trim for resale. The deal for the fairly poorly equipped Limited in my sig is invouce - holdback - incentives ($500 plus 0% for 72).
But if you really like that truck, it is a decent deal with trade considered.

I made a mistake and activated my $1000 Penfed offer. I doubt I’ll be buying within 60 days but likely will in 3-6 months. Can it be re-activated upon expiration?

You should be able to just get a new one.
