gotmeahemi glad you're okay.

You can submit any aftermarket stuff you've done (with receipts) and the insurance company will use that to adjust the amount they are going to give you for the truck.

It's not going to be as much as you spent on them but it could increase your payout.

When my last truck got totaled a couple of years ago my insurance company asked for that and I got an extra ~$1000 in my check. It's better than nothing as I submitted a list with over $10K of stuff.
Probably would have been better off removing all the aftermarket parts and sold them rather than turn them in to insurance.

They didn't inspect the truck. They just wanted a list of any aftermarket stuff I'd done within the last year and the receipts to prove it. It was a 2003 so anything new could make a difference in value.

Like gotmeahemi it wasn't anything I could prepare for. Commuting to work one morning on the freeway and a distracted Jeep driver caused a 4-car accident (I was car #4) and sends me to the body shop which officially calls it totaled.

The shop was nice enough to let me "get some things I forgot in my glovebox". They told me they closed in a couple hours and I had to be done by then. I pulled some things off that wouldn't affect the truck running. The big ticket items couldn't be removed (performance fuel injectors, gauges, custom-tuned ECM, turbo, exhaust, suspension components, etc.) as I didn't have the time, resources, or the truck would not start/drive without them.

I probably could have bought the salvage title and parted it out for more than what the insurance company gave me for it but that would have taken a lot of time and effort on my part to do that. Even then there was no guarantee I would be able to sell off everything or how long that would take.

My wife told me if I took the check and "walked away" from my diesel addiction I could get a new truck instead of a used one so I took the 'deal' and here I am in the 5thgenrams forum. ;)

So, you prefer a noisier cab then?
I can't tell the difference, as far as "noise". I did it because my exhaust was droning some in the cab at about 1450-1650 rpm. I figured it was the ANC. It seems somewhat quieter now. The drone, I mean. Plus, when I put a sub in there, I will have to bypass it anyway. And, If I ever put in a intake, It will definitely drone. My 2018 Jeep GC did when I put an intake in it. I had to disconnect it.

This was more or less just a test.

Had a Vortex Cherry Bomb muffler installed to replace the stock 55 gallon drum. Sounds good when you step on the skinny pedal, no drone in the cabin. I kept the stock resonators for now. I sometimes leave the house at 5 in the morning and I don't want to be "that guy".

Today and yesterday, I took my truck back to stock in preparation for selling Hi-O Silver*: out the OEM wheels and tires back on, sold the Retrax cover, removed the VLEDS license plate frame, and removed the super cool Florida Gators paraphernalia which I know you’re all jealous of.

While removing the wiring harness for the VLEDS, I notice a ton of mud on the underside of the truck from my past mini-off-roading adventure, so I hosed that all away before I bring it to Autonation to get an offer tomorrow. I plan on keeping it and trading it to Mark Dodge in a few weeks, but who knows, maybe Autonation will pleasantly surprise me and I’ll be truckless for a little while.

I might give her another bath today.

* I’ve never called my truck that, and just made that name up now. It’s terrible and I should never have typed that.

Installed my Sprint Booster today. Was hoping to live without it but decided I wanted one again. Had one on my ‘16 rcsb.

Yeah, trying to part out a vehicle sucks. Been there, done that twice. Each time was still left with most of the vehicle I had to get rid of.
