I am the proud owner of a brand new 2020 RAM 5.7 hemi big horn with night package, off-road package, and lighting LED package. Bought it with 4 miles, and now three days later it has about 130 miles. I love it, however, the radio does not get loud. I turn it up to 20 or 25 and I would call that medium loud, but then as I go all the way up to 38 which is Max, it makes zero difference in the loud noise. It should crank and probably even hurt my ears, shouldn’t it? It even seems to fluctuate a little quieter at 38. And as I go down from 38 back down to about 25 or 20, there is zero difference in the volume because it never got loud to begin with. ????

Following.

Mine does this intermittently.

When you experience this, try to seek for a fm radio station. Mine will not find any stations! Its like the tuner is operating at reduced power OR the antenna is picking up too much interference. I've had it at the dealer twice now for software upgrades/reflashes and nothing has worked yet.

I have a stock sound system with a 5” screen. I noticed that my sound system never got loud enough with the knob all turned up.

From another large thread on here, it was suggested to change out the front two dash speakers. I put in kickers and the sound is MUCH louder and sounds a million times better. Best value mod by far. Very easy to install too.

With my setup, it seems like the AM/FM radio gets louder than when I’m using my iPhone to play music through USB port. Still a ton better than my stock setup.

Yes, in my experience it’s only when playing music via usb to phone or Bluetooth. AM/FM radio is much louder.

I know using CarPlay anything above 20 does nothing. Kinda annoying but its really only an issue if I have the windows down which isnt much with it being 90+ out. I have the infinity speakers in the dash which does make a world of difference on the base system. Whenever I get around to doing my keyless entry I am adding some mid bass woofers to the front doors but not sure that will make a difference in loudness.

I did the 3.5 dash speaker upgrade and it was much louder, however they overpowered the door speakers. The OEM dash speakers are 8 ohm which is impossible to find, 4 ohm is pretty standard. The lower resistance of the aftermarket speaker allows more power than the system was designed for. I added 4 ohm resistors to each speaker and the system was balanced again

Is this with a phone plugged in? I have the exact same issue in my 19 Big Horn, but if you unplug your phone with it above 25 and the volume jumps a LOT. UConnect and RAM both tell me there is nothing wrong with it, it must be my phone. It's been 3 iPhones and an Android. I did the dash speaker upgrade and it helps a whole lot.

Anyone have a fix to this? CarPlay is not loud at all and anything over 25 the volume stays the same. I just bought the truck and it’s really annoying. ‘19 Rebel

What helped a bit on mine was moving the crossover a notch or two towards the front speakers in settings. I wouldn’t call it a fix but an improvement. The volume still is not loud but helps with the weird fade in and out affect of the volume.

Can you tell me what firmware your radio has installed? I am having the same issue. The volume over 22-23 does nothing. It almost sounds like the system is stopping it from going louder. Maybe to protect the speakers? I have the same 8" non-nav radio. This is the only thing I hate about my Rebel. After the dealer upgraded the firmware, does your volume seem to go up past 22-23 as expected, or does it still clip out?

Same issue here, I like the windows down, can hardly hear the radio at highway speeds. I’ve added a powered sub to the Ram (I can hear that). Might change out the fronts but, that’s a Pandora’s box and I’d end up changing everything, $$$. I’m not looking for perfection, but would like to crank it up once in a while.
Watching this thread hoping for a fix.

This is a well known issue. The problem... Sound is degraded when using a USB connection, and or car play any version. You would think a hard wired connection would sound awesome! But something about the electronics is not allowing it.
Ram/dodge FAC states, “it’s a phone problem” stop bothering us.
Apple/Android/ and 10,294 different variety of phones state it’s the trucks problem.
Only work arounds we know of... Don’t use USB for audio. Yea, I know it sucks!
Use Bluetooth! Put your phone up to about 90% volume and enjoy!
or
Use a CD! The CD player I guess has a great clear sound!
Fade Audio towards the front 1-2 clicks! It will sound better!
It’s sad that a huge company @RamCares keeps pointing fingers at the consumers! It’s a glitch in the software, and inputs. Period!
no, they won’t do jack shir about it cause the next version of uconnect is coming, and they don’t give two squats about this old outdated equipment! (Even tho most of of have saved up, taken pride, what have you to get our beautiful trucks! It’s a disgrace on RAM)

if they do answer which I doubt @RAM or @RamCares will, they will ask the same basic questions. First, what firmware version are you on? Have you tried another cable? Have you tried another phone, reset the radio, check your audio and EQ settings on phone. Then, we are sorry to hear your having problems with your ram truck. It will be noted for a solution. To which we will never have one.

Ok, I feel slightly better now! After my rant!

It’s just sad as hell a Honda Civic has a better audio system then our 50k plus trucks! Fact that RAM has not done anything about it, other then denying and taking the precious time of your vehicle staying in the shop! I’ve seen and heard trucks be left in the shop for weeks/months while they tried to change he same part for the same part! I’ve seen a month waiting for software, to do nothing. (While the consumer pays his bill, and gets no rental) So, I would not waste your time taking it to the dealership, unless you want to pay for your broken truck they don’t think is broken, sitting in a bay, while some kid who does not care about his own vehicle let alone ours takes **** apart, breaking tabs, pulling harnesses, making pin holes in your wires trying to figure it out. And oh, they do notice the issue!! BUT not having a clue, some tear apart the full truck to test each speaker and amp! (Yup, got back into my truck with the dash falling off, filled with cigarettes smoke, seats all over the place, and charged me for the wrong service, while hiding my coupon)
It’s software! We know it, they know it! But to RD a fix will cost more then they want to spend.
It’s a big pile of poop!
Super sorry! I hope someone figures something out.

Fade two clicks to the front, it will improve a ton! Don’t matter if you have the Alpine/HK or stock non-amp.. The USB audio is horrid! Negates the whole CarPlay being useful. Unless you don’t want to hear your music!
Yes, some older folks at FCA may not notice the difference due to hearing aids, and not giving two craps about audio!!
“sounds great to me” “Dave, Why would you want to turn it up past 24?”
Are
You
Kidding?

Something happened in the past day with my Rebel (Alpine with kickers in the front three). It sounded awesome until today. Now it's not as loud as it was at 20 and won't go past 24.

Having a similar issue with my 8.4 non nav radio. It sounded fine with CarPlay for the past month I’ve owned it. Yesterday using CarPlay max volume is about what half volume was a few hours before. I looked up my vin and it said my uconnect software is up to date. Idk what happened or how to fix it... it’s kinda aggravating

I've had an intermittent volume issue with mine. I'm sure it's a software issue but I turned off the speed adjust volume and it rarely happens now.
