Should I get the 12" on a 2021 Ram 3500?

I am not a heavy user of media other than listening to my music or podcasts. I do like technology though and like the idea of the 12" screen, especially the split screen. I am not sure I am calculating correctly though, but it seems like the split screen will not really be two of the 8.4" but two a bit smaller? My main hesitation about the 12" though is that I have seen lots of posts and videos since it came out where it became buggy or stopped working in various ways. I know that more problems than no problems show up online, but since I am not sure the 12" is a huge deal for me, I am trying to be proactive in my choice. I definitely believe the 12" is a worthwhile upgrade and if something happens to it I am not concerned about temporarily losing music and podcasts until fixed. But I want to know what else would be lost also?

My biggest concern is that if the screen or device itself crashes, I will not have access to many other features of the truck. I have learned there are many features that are controlled though the touch screen. A few, like some of the climate controls also have hard buttons around the edge of the unit. But it appears there are many functions that are only available through the touch screen. If the screen is not working, I think I would lose all of those functions until the UConnect unit gets fixed or replaced. I am trying to figure out exactly which functions would be lost in this scenario? I think heated and ventilated seats would be gone or stuck in whatever the setting was when the unit crashed? What other settings and functions would I lose if the 12" screen was out? I have watched a bunch of videos on using the 12" and they touch on a lot of the items available via the touch screen, but never actually say which ones are not available any other way. I know with the 8.4" you get more hard buttons so if that unit conks out it might not be such an issue.

Thanks for any experience or advice on deciding!

I dont have experience with the 12" Ram touch screen but I'd like to throw my input in. I had a newer loaner Infiniti with a dual touch screen when my G37 was outta commission. I was not a fan. When it comes to controlling things like climate control, heated seats, etc; i'd much rather have an array of buttons. Now, I know the 12" screen does have climate buttons, but so did the Infiniti. the fact is they are placed in a way that they are an after thought, a second option of control. When I'm driving down a highway, I want a clear and concise button that never moves and can be felt for.

I fell for the 12" screen gimmick. My friends with the 12" display said it's a must have. I think I would have been just fine with the 8.4". I miss having actual buttons for my seat/steering wheel heaters. I find it slightly annoying that I have to look away from the road to touch the panel to get into the menu to turn on/off those heaters. If I had a physical button I think I could easily hit it without having to look. I'm also annoyed there isn't a climate control off button. I have to get into the climate control menu to turn off the A/C. IMHO, the only advantage of the 12" screen is the split screen capability.

Get the 12”. It’s amazing and worth the extra money.
