8.4 vs 12 inch screen

Does anyone who has a 12 inch screen regret it and wish they had an 8.4?

I initially thought an 8.4 would be better for me because I like physical buttons and don’t like mashing a screen all the time. I am also skeptical on how a screen this large will perform over say a 5 yr period. All tech gets glitchy over time.

But so many of you seem to love the larger screen and I am wondering if an 8.4 would lead to regret.

The 12 inch screen is well documented that it freezes up & has problems. Plus I can't stand the way it looks. They should have it go horizontally like the new Ford F-150 does. Also gets full of fingerprints. I like physical buttons. 8.4 inch screen is big enough imo. Plus the fact that u are really only getting a 6 inch screen when backing up & such , as the 12 inch screen splits into 2 separate screens. That's really dumb imo.

Love the 12" screen, once you get used to it. When someone new sits in the truck they be like holy sh*t that screen is big.

I love the 12" screen. I really like the way you can customize it to fit your own preferences. As for finger prints - which I hate! - I just keep a MF towel in the console and life is good. So, no. No regrets here.

Lack of buttons on a 12” vs the 8.4” is the biggest myth bs ever posted on here (and everywhere else)

EVERY button, with the exception of heated seats and heated wheel, are available with the 12” screen
The one thing to note - fan speed on 8.4 is a dial, up/down buttons on the 12

Anyone using that “screen mashing” is making excuses and just doesn’t know what’s actually there

Idk why anyone would want Nav when u can just use Google maps & Android Auto??
Only reason I wish I had NAV was because of the wifi hotspot which I think is only available on the NAV version? I could be way wrong though.

I specifically went with 8" because of the climate and fan speed KNOB controls and the heated seat and wheel buttons. Wife's Cherokee lacks the heated seat and wheel buttons and is also up and down arrows for speed/temp. I hate it. For some reason I just find it a pain to go through menus to turn off seats and wheel. Also having to hammer the temp up/down buttons to get where I want it rather than just spinning a dial. All just personal preference though.

I have the 8.4" in my truck and my brother has the 12" in his. He actually likes the 8.4" size over the 12" but his only gripe on the 8.4" is that it doesn't have the off road pages and thus the reason he went with the 12".

I have a love hate with the 12 inch while it makes the interior look nicer and has a wow factor. The 8.4 has more usable space. Now if the camera and car play ran full screen then hands down the 12 inch screen. Also you can move the icons to your favorite bar (at the bottom) for almost any function, so I will have my heated seats and steering wheel there.

I have the 8.4 with Nav and love it. I did try out the 12 before I bought the truck and I was just fine with the 8.4 size.

Regarding Nav. Count me in as one of the few that love the Nav even though I do use Waze and Maps. Nav works great when you’re out of phone reception, everything is preloaded already.

Love my 12'' set up, look's great and zero gripes so far about ease of use. I also use the 8.4'' in my mom's Jeep Cherokee and it works fine as well. I use waze in wifey's Acadia and that option is great as well so plenty of different ways to go. The justification posts are laughable, just because I have it doesn't make it the best thing since sliced bread!!

Totally agree.. I remember when I ordered my S10 and there was only the option to get the radio, radio w/ cassette or no radio. Love that we have all the options that we have now.

Both look and work great, it's simply a matter of personal preference and money.

When I was trying to decide between an F150 and a RAM 1500, the 12" screen was a key factor, it just looked so incredible to me. My Limited came with it and it's awesome. I can still choose between physical and on-screen buttons for most key operations.

It's nice to have the choice, get whatever you prefer.

I'm on the fence with this one. 12 inch definitely looks awesome, but I kept thinking "what is the cost to fix this in 5 years"?

As far as I could see, the map during navigation (and backup camera's etc) does not cover the full 12 inches, and when I discovered that I just thought, welp, the 8.4 will work just as good. No point in having 12 inches when you're only seeing half of it at one time.

You can use Waze on the 12". Just have to connect via phone connector/charger wire. At least you could do that with the 2020. Not sure yet on on 2021.

You can full screen nav, or split it with something else (radio, etc)

I have the 8.4 and really didn't even consider the 12 inch for one reason - I hate the brightness of the screens during night time driving. A lot of the time I turn the screen off when it's dark outside. Figured that issue would only be worse with a larger screen.

8.4 with NAV - perfect size and do not wish I had the 12". Unless you are into WOW every time someone new gets in, not sure it works as well and is worth the upgrade. If the only trucks on the lot all had the 12" I wouldn't discount it, but would also have to be willing to pay the higher price it commands.
