Take my advice. When you engage in a question and answer arena here, you often get what you didn't ask for.
Really Captain Obvious? When I post, I hope to receive well thought out answers from intelligent people that make you think or look at an issue/problem differently. The response I received, that you referenced above, was worthless and an inaccurate assumption. So because I mentioned that am looking at an F150 means that I want one? NO...it means that I am intrigued by what I am hearing and seeing about it on-line and feel that it warrants a closer look.

I’d wait for the 2022 since this is the first year of a redesign for Ford they might have some bugs to work out . There’s also the possibility of U5 for the 22 Ram and the Tundra is finally supposed to get the next gen in 2022 . The GM twins will probably have a nicer interior as well . It would be awesome to check them all out if you really want to trade yours in .
Very interesting observations @Fatherof3. I have also been reading about the 2022 Tundra (which is the highest rated pickup from reliability) and have also heard that the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali will be getting a dash and interior the same, or very similar to the new Cadillac Escalade. It does appear certain that the 2022 RAM with receive U5. There is always a risk with first year of anything. My 2019 RAM was a risk, but it has performed flawlessly from an electrical and mechanical perspective. I appreciate the thought my friend!

I actually like the Denali and an modernizing of the interior may make it "buyable". but I'd need to see it. Ram Dealers were so difficult to deal with that I seriously considered and looked at Denalis but the interior and the strange looking wheel opening design made me stop. I still like them, not sure over the Ram but definitely over the Ford.

I have a friend with a new Silverado, transmission problems

I can relate. I'm bored with my truck and have the itch for a new dashboard to look at. That would eliminate the Ram at this point. I have convinced myself to hang on to my Ram for at least another year. Right now my #1 pick would be a Platinum hybrid F150. I fully expect the Ram to be basically unchanged in 2022.

Right there with you my friend. I have narrowed down my F150 choice to the Platinum as well. I built it and the MSRP is $70,090 so right in line with the RAM Limited optioned where I would want it...actually a few grand less than the RAM. I am looking forward to seeing it and driving it and then gauging my options.

I would wait for the F-150 to come out then drive both and then pull the trigger on what I thought was the best. No harm in waiting whatsoever when you're in the position of not NEEDING to buy at this very moment

Like I said - coulda/shoulda/woulda - waited another year for the new GM SUV's (or wait another year for the next-gen Honda Pilots to come out -they always served me well).

Don't get me wrong - totally LOVE my Ram. Really (still) the sweetest pickup out there - especially value-wise.

New Yukons (Tahoe's) have independent rear suspension now. With Air Ride - it's really an amazing ride for a full-size SUV.

Supposedly - there will be a Jeep Grand Wagoneer next year - based on the 1500 platform (for upwards of $100K - REALLY - A ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR JEEP - come on man). Rumor has the next gen Durango doing likewise. FCA has NOTHING on the incredibly popular full sized SUV class of vehicle - and they know they are MISSING THE BOAT - BIG TIME.

But again - honestly - for ME - pickup doesn't really meet my needs as well as an SUV does. And I will likely be working out a Yukon Denali, when they actually start DEALING on them (likely summer '21). The GMC Denali's are WAY NICER than the Chevy High Country (how do you NOT INCLUDE FOR LIGHTS on a damn truck - or even the OPTION FOR THEM - which means 3rd party, and adding a switch and wiring to make them work - versus the GMC's come WITH THEM).

I just don't get what GM is thinking sometimes. That, and you cannot get a MONRONEY STICKER ANY GM VEHICLE when you're "shopping online", which makes it NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to actually see WHAT'S REALLY IN THE VEHICLE.

At least FCA lets you get the Window Sticker which does wonders when shopping.

Rick
I've always been a firm believer that GMC is way better quality and standard options over Chevy. So many people claim that they're the exact same but I have to disagree based on experience. Even price point is the same if you include all options that you have to add onto the Chevy. But the more I think about it...the more I realize that I should've just gotten the crew cab for the extra $4k over the quad cab...just because that little extra room in the cabin would've made a big difference where the SUV wouldn't have been needed...yes... should've/would've lol.

Lease if you like changing frequently
I trade every 1-2 years...not doing a 3-year lease. I keep my vehicles in MINT condition and I have never had an issue of getting well above Blue Book. As long as my loss doesn't equate to >$500/month on average, than I consider myself to be well ahead of the game ;) I am 58 years old and this RAM is my 37th vehicle. I am also on my 6th wife...I get bored of them too:ROFLMAO:

Toyotas are only rated high longevity because they use parts from 2010; my, a 6 speed transmission, that's a real selling point!

I'm looking forward to what they release with their next gen, but Ram is always going to be the value leader here unless they significantly change their incentives which; I don't see happening, everything seems to indicate they want to drive Chevy out of the number 2 spot.

It's your money, but this is a very bad time to buy a truck. Wait and see what the competitors are dropping in a few months. Get the dash fixed by the dealer, won't cost you anything, and then you don't have to look at it and can bide your time a little better. You're not going to keep your truck more than a few months anyway right, so, if they screw up the fix, no loss there either.

I have had similar thoughts @silver billet. I wasn't going to get the dash replaced until I've decided what I am going to do. This way, once the dash is replaced, if I have rattles that pi$$ me off, it won't bother me for long!

Ditto (on the vehicles, not wives :p ). I change vehicles every 2-3 years, so I’m in that phase right now looking to see what else is out there. Exciting months ahead.

Cheers,

Meh, I traded in my 2017 Ford yesterday for a 2021 Ram Rebel. Owned many Fords and Rams. For dislikes include Ford's flat butt ache seats #1. Ford's lame brakes #2. Ram interiors have more soft materials still lots of hard plastic in Fords #3. Rear leaf springs #4.

One gotcha on the Ram with the multi function tailgate I was not aware of, almost none of the bed covers will fit it because Ram had to install LARGE corner braces in the front of the bed on those. Apparently the multi function tailgate reduces structural integrity. The braces interfere with bed cover mounting.

If you wait until 2022 your current truck trade in price will go down further. It’s probably up quite a bit due to used car prices right now. I just traded in a 19 bighorn on a 21 Laramie and the bighorn traded in for 40k. What would you be waiting for on the 2022?

It's interesting you mention that because I really thought my 2014 F150 had more comfortable seats and the material on the dash was softer for sure. But still like my Ram better either way.

I owned a 2014 F150 and the seats were worse than the 2010 Ram it replaced imo. Mine had leather. I had a short bed and the bed shook horribly over bumps. You could look in the mirror and watch the bed shaking. That said my 2014 F150 remains the KING of headlights. Those HID's crush the newer LED headlights in both my F350 and new Ram Rebel. I did get flashed a lot in the 2014. Sadly some idiot charged out of a side street and T boned my 2014 totaling it.

So a local dealer has several 2021 RAM 1500 Limited's I am interested in. Loaded with split tailgate (no RAM boxes which I don't want). MSRP is close to $73K and they are willing to sell either one for $63K. Trying to get them closer to $60K but the remaining 2020's aren't helping my situation. They offered me $48K for my truck if I leave the Retrax on which I can't use anyway if I get a split gate truck. I paid just over $57K about 2 years ago. Looking at both BLACK and GRANITE with the Night Edition Package...they both are loaded to the max and without Ram Boxes. Trying to decide if it's worth it to do it now? Wait for the 2021 Ford F150 Platinum which stickers at just over $71K? Or wait for the 2022 RAM?

Decisions...decisions

Thoughts anyone?
Not sure you will get them down much more on a 2021 limited! I’ve had problems with my 19 ram and they are buying it back and I’m having a new 2021 Laramie built. Hopefully no problems with the new one. I’ve also been interested in the 2021 Ford. They seem nice and finally updated. However not sure you will get Dealers to come down that much on a 2021 platinum Ford? When my 19 ram is working properly I can say I absolutely love its performance and the way it drives. I’ve never had a Ford, but as long as they don’t have many problems I’ll look at a Ford in a few years. Good luck in whatever you decide!
