Dear fellow Ram lovers, last year we bought a RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn 5,7 HEMI in Belgium, from what the seller told me it had all options checked, stupid me for not verifying. The option I am missing most is the larger gastank, since I use the vehicle for towing a lot the 26 gallon tank is just too small even at lowered speeds. So my question is, apart from installing an LPG installation, what options do I have. I know there is a slightly larger tank available (the option they did not check) but can it be mounted afterwards. And are there custom shops, in Europe preferably Belgium, that can just mount a large tank, I'm thinking in the range of 50-100gallon (200l - 400l)
Does anyone have experience with using a larger tank? I do not mind loading weight capacity, I would mind losing loading volume more.

There's a zillion companies (in the States at least) that make auxiliary fuel tanks that sit in the bed like a truck box. In fact, many or most of them ARE a truck box and just a portion of the truck box is the fuel tank. They're made for diesel but I don't see why they wouldn't work for regular gasoline as well. It is a bit peculiar that you're wanting to add 50-100 gallons of fuel in a half-ton truck, but... whatever floats your boat.

Before you have a tank installed, be sure to check that a large separate tank mounted in the bed carrying gasoline is allowed by the authorities in your country.

funny enough, I chatted with @RAM1990 here on the board who's only a few hours away likely (holland) - they suggested https://bijvelds.com/contact/ to talk to for LPG, you might be able to ping them about a petrol tank as well.

there's people here who've looked into retrofitting the 33gal tank, I hear it's expensive

Hi @TruckDriver , I emailed them and will keep you guys posted here. There are a few reasons, some better than other, to opt for the regular petrol upgrade rather than the LPG. For one LPG does not allow you in any underground parking structures, but also some events, locations and other are prohibited, so it is limiting. LPG tank is mounted in the bed, where I would prefer to keep my storage capacity, the other smaller option is to replace the spare wheel, which would be a valid option if that would not make it extra vulnerable when offroading. And lastly, the LPG option is costly as well, it does offer a lot of extra miles as opposed to the upgrading of the tank.

@slicktop I know in the states with this kind of question a lot of skilled people would be able to help, but since I'm on the other side of the pond, I'd love a closer option, especially since the truck already made the, more than, expensive trip once already. Next time it will have that option before it leaves there in the first place ;-)
I'm used to driving a diesel powered vehicle, and use it both for work and daily travel, as well as using it on long travels. The diesel powered vehicles that allow me to travel the equivalent of 650 miles with one tank (24gallons), I can't even dream of doing that with two tanks on the Ram, when towing it allows me 250 miles if I'm lucky, doubling the tank would allow for 500 miles (for about 50gallons of petrol), so 50-100 would vastly improve traveling long distance ;-) Also I wonder why in a country that is known for its vast distances, as opposed to ours where travelling 40 miles is considered too far, the tanks are what I consider small to very small ;-)

@RJS I indeed doubt they will go for that, on the other hand, the truck does allow for quite some tank space when custom made, I just have to find a company willing to do that, and able to get it sorted with the authorities.

Probably because we have fuel stations EVERYWHERE, a quick google search tells me there are 168,000 gas stations in the US alone... (y)

The number of gas stations is not the issue, the amount of fuel stops are in my book ;-) If I can do the trip with one fuel stop or none at all in stead of 5, that would be great ;-)

Usually my bladder needs emptying before my truck needs filling so I don't mind the 26 gallon, at least that's the lie I tell myself. Even the optional 33 gallon seems a bit small for a gas hog. The 33 should be standard and the option twin 26 gallon tanks for a total of 52 gallons. It's all a payload game so FCA can put a larger number on the door jamb sticker to keep up with the competition. What is truly pathetic is the 23 gallon on the e-torque

Whats truly pathetic is the 19 gallon tank in the promaster I drive for work. It averages around 12 MPG with all my equipment on it. My company is not buying them anymore thank goodness but I have to put 250K on this one before they'll retire it and I'm only at 116k...

You could order yourself the 33gal tank and install it yourself. Watched this today when thinking of upgrading mine. Only issue is I’d have to get a new fuel pump also. Yours would just be a drop old tank, pull pump and install into new tank, install new tank to truck. Last thing you’d have to do is have a dealer or shop update the computer to show the 33 gal tank for proper gauge/trip kpg/km to empty. Only difference in the 26 to 33 gal tank is the 33 is longer.

This video is for the 09-18 rams but I’d assume the setup is quite similar on ours.

I think Bijvelds is the best place to go to in Holland, they aren't a large company but they will do, and explore, all possibilities to help you out.

I have the LPG tank where the spare-tire used to be, and a second tank in the bed. For me this decision was not based on particular pro's and con's, i'm just a lazy guy who hates stopping at a gasstation :ROFLMAO: Also i'm not actually working with my RAM, the bed is alwaays empty (exept for the spare tire) and the most exotic thing i've done so far is pulling a friends car out of the mud this spring.
So if it's a practical issue where you specifically need a larger petrol tank, Bijvelds might be able to help you out.

I am also from Belgium and ordered mine with an LPG tank in the bed. I asked them for the bigger fuel tank but they told me that AEC (the importer) does not order them with the 33 gallon tank cause in Europe the majority has the LPG installed.
Perhaps I will also but an extra LPG tank where the spare tire sits. And I will do this at Van Meenen. Your partner for LPG and CNG. | LPG-CNG Van Meenen

He told me that the price of those ringtanks is around 1000 to 1300 euros and especially now with the fuel prices of about 2 euro per liter, LPG with a price of 1 euro per liter is also getting expensive but still more interesting.
