I have a 1500 limited and after 15k miles the tires are bald all around. The original tires were Goodyear eagle touring.
Goodyear is giving me a discount on replacement of the same tire. where the tires mounting and tax will be just shy of$700.
I can also get a set of Michelin LTX for around $1100 out the door.
Is it worth going with the Goodyear and risking early failure again but I’ll get at least get another 1.5 yrs. or just suck it up and go for the LTX that is rated to 70k?
Thanks for the input

Having used Goodyear Eagle and Michelin Pilot on the same vehicle (Audi A6)- Hands down Michelin. Goodyear Eagle were great for first 5-7k Miles, but then started making loud noise on highway. Besides, lasted me only 30K (thankful for that). Never again.

On the other Michelin lasted me 55k and always performed like new.

As a sidenote eagle is the designation Goodyear uses for their passenger tire brand and wrangler is what they use for the truck all terrain tire brand. There are various versions of eagles and wranglers.

If you’re looking for a quality highway tire the Michelin LTX is the clear winner. Sold many tires when I worked at the ram dealer in the service department and saw trucks with Michelin LTX having a long tread life before replacement.

I'm expecting delivery on a RAM 1500 in a couple of weeks and have since learned the Goodyear tires which are standard really suck. Only wheel, not tire options. This is embarrassing to me because I grew up in the Akron, OH area and many of my relatives made their living working rubber generations ago. I think they were good tires back in the day, as they say.
My question is what is the best way to get some $ back when I replace them with Michelin's. I'm thinking once I pick up the truck from the dealer I'll drive directly to Costco to swap them out. How do I resale these?
Any comments would be appreciated !

If I use a road tire it will always be a Michelin. I had LTX M/S2's on my Titan for 40k miles with bad alignment. Wore the outer edges bald while the interior had tread (dumb kid that didn't know much about vehicles yet). Got it aligned and ran them another 12k basically on the interior tread. Dry, rain, snow, those things were great. Worth the price tag.

I would go with Michelin. I've had michelin car tires and BF Goodrich all-terrain tires (owned by Michelin) and they have been great.

Some of the tire wear are your local road conditions. My wife's tires had a 70K mile warranty and were down to the wear bars in 20K (I check pressure every week and rotate every 5K miles).

I would go Michelin I've had a couple sets of the MS/2's and they more then pay for themselves over other brands, never had any luck with Goodyear tires.

Michelin LTX is the way to go. Forget about the money, Ride quality, noise level, traction and braking in wet and snow is what you get. Don't buy tires that say they have longer life ( Mileage ) that's a bunch of sheep dip.

Thanks for all the good info. Never a doubt to me the replacement would be a Michelin.
My question is can I recoup some of the expense from the take off brand new Goodyear tires to put towards the Michelins'? There has got to be some value in those take offs.

If you can wait till October. Mopar has a tire program every fall and spring. Buy three tires get one for $1. Costco usually has the better deal on Michelin except when the sale is going. So check with your dealer in October.

Craigslist and Facebook marketplace will sell used tires like hotcakes

I took the OEM Bridgestone duellers of my truck with about 500 miles on them. Sold them for $500 on Craigslist in a day

I took off my Goodyear crap tires and installed Michelin Defender LTX M/S and I am very happy. You can not go wrong with Michelin tires and I highly recommend these tires!

Just as an FYI...the sale is really no great sale. You pay RETAIL for the first 3 and the road hazard sucks. I found that Discount Tire, and every other tire shop, will easily beat the Mopar sale and offer far better road hazard protection. I just went through this during their last sale a few months back!

Check with the shop you are getting your new tires from to see what they'll give you for trade-in.

I went to Discount Tire for my Ridge Grapplers and they gave me a decent trade-in for my Falken tires with 3K miles on them.

I probably could have gotten $50-$100 more selling them on Craigslist but it wasn't worth the hassle to me to sell them privately compared to getting a discount on my new tires and Discount dealing with the old tires.

I was a service advisor for Ram and sold a lot of tires during those sales and took advantage of it myself. Sure you pay retail but some of these tires are $200 $300 almost $400 each... That’s better than a $50 $80 or $100 rebate.

Various tire shops may reduce the retail cost of the tire but I can’t imagine it being $300 savings. Sometimes you can stack the Mopar deal with a manufacture rebate if it’s going on at the same time which makes it even sweeter. But hey if you found A better deal that’s great. I’m all for saving money. 9 times out of 10 the Mopar sale is a great deal.

I wholeheartedly agree that discount tire is going to be much easier to road hazard a tire. Most service advisors are not familiar with the process and a lot of parts departments for that matter. It’s not that you can’t Road hazard a tire at a ram dealer, it’s just a hassle...

In my earlier days in my automotive career when I was a BMW technician I exclusively used America’s tire/discount tire and think they’re a fantastic company.

I think you missed my point. Every tire shop I went to was happy to BEAT the MOPAR Buy 3 Get 1 without hesitation and you get a far better road hazard warranty. Plus, I got rebates on TOP of the better price so it was very lucrative to use the MOPAR sale against them...get a better price and then rebates on top ;)

Discount would only give me $50 a tire for my bridgestones with 500 miles on them. A tire they sold for $225 a piece. I sold them myself for $500 easy. Worth asking but he should definitely be able to get a lot more selling them himself

I haven't even got the truck delivered yet but am itching to get the factory Goodyear tires off. I've only bought Michelin's for my vehicles from SUV's to compacts. Expensive, but worth it in my opinion. Very satisfied. But its not like I've test driven every other tire out there so could be something better. I just know from the small sampling I have had, Michelin knows tires. Smooth ride, handling, etc., just works.
