Can anybody confirm this dial works?

I noticed the left dial does not dim the lights in my truck, does anybody else have this issue?

Do you have to flip the overhead switch to turn the light on and then adjust it?

I only have used mine at night time driving. When I am driving at night I scroll it completely down to make my cabin dark as possible. Not sure if it matters but my head lights are on "auto" too. I dont flip any overhead switches etc. Just enter my truck and start it then scroll down.

On your doors and floor there are entry/ambient location LED lights. Pull in garage or dark area, look back towards armrest of rear passenger side. Turn running lights on, adjust left knob. You'll see that Led go bright to dim. When you see it, you'll also notice the others since you know now what that dang knob does. I liked to wore mine out till I caught a flicker were identified. LOL

If you have a BigHorn the only ambient lighting you have shines down from the overhead console onto the cupholders. The dial dims that light. It took me a while to figure that out.

Same, after I could not see it working so to speak it hit my brain, try it at night.

I wonder if we can add the ambience lighting in other locations. Hmmmm. I’d wager the plugs are already in place to connect to. I know my 14 Ram has empty connectors for the ambience lighting in the rear.

Even though I'm a voracious owner's manual reader, I had trouble figuring this one out as well.

On the Laramie there are ambient lighting LEDs in the inside door handle pocket, the armrest area, two on the dash just under the upper dash cover overhang (one on each side of the steering wheel), and one above and behind the upper glove box door.

Since we’re on the subject of interior lights, anyone else feel like the dash lights are either too bright (full on) or too dim. I’m struggling to find the perfect medium for in city night driving. Out of town the lower settings are perfect.

My problem is at dusk. The auto lights turn on and darken the dash and radio. So I have to adjust them brighter so I can see them, then as it gets darker out i have to adjust them again darker. Really annoying. My mustang and my 300 will turn the lights on automatically but keep the dash lights brighter longer.

Agreed. At dusk, everything is much too dark on the dash until I turn things up. Then I have to turn them back down at night. Aggravating.

Quick question, the only way the ambient lighting turns on in my bighorn (over the cup holders) is if I DON’T have the right switch turned to the brightest setting (dash lights). Is this the same for everyone else or can it still be turned on/adjusted when dash is set to the brightest?

There are some other threads in this forum about ambient lighting but yes if you have the right dial turned to the brightest setting it turns off the ambient lights even if you have the left dial on the brighest setting. Try turning right dial down one click from highest and pull in somewhere dark. You will see ambient lights on. This is how FCA designed this..unfortunately.

Thanks for clarifying. Apparently the dealer isn’t even aware of this as they were planning to investigate the wiring behind the switch for me. I did have an issue with the right switch turning off the four wheel drive lights if turned to the brightest setting (which they fixed by replacing the switch).

I am having this same issue right now that you had. When the right switch is in the brightest setting; the 4wd indicator background lights will not illuminate. Dealer told me "thats how it is", I suppose I will have to look into this more. Which switch did they replace? The 4wd buttons/dial switch or the right side rotary dimming switch?

I have a 2019 Ram Limited, purchased in September 2018. I have the same problem noted by 356, Lbdyll and Dennis Y, above. The settings for the instrument cluster brightness (when the headlights are on) is governed solely by the right rheostat wheel. The choice you have for a setting is max bright (to the top, past the detent), which is too bright for driving at night when it is dark outside, and the setting right below that which is extremely dim. The problem is that the headlights when set to automatic will come on whenever the wipers come on, even during the day (this is the default setting which I use), and they also come on when it is overcast during the day, and then also during the 30-45 minutes at dusk prior to actual darkness. Whenever that happens during those times, prior to actual darkness, its like someone turned off the instrument cluster lights. The rheostat needs to provide a brighter setting below the max brightness setting at the very top (which again is too bright for actual night driving), which can be set to provide adequate light anytime the headlights are on. Every other vehicle I have owned will do this.
I have my truck in to the dealer today, although it will be a day or so before they are able to look at it. I will post later this week to let you know what they say. It was actually very overcast this morning and I sat and showed the service writer exactly what was going on. He said that it was normal and that they weren't getting any substantial complaints about it. I told him it wasn't satisfactory. It's really hard for me to believe that there aren't a lot of complaints about this. A rheostat that lets a little more juice through would seem to be a simple cure. Maybe enough complaints will generate a solution

I'd have to look again, but I thought I saw a Uconnect setting on how bright or dim these lights are when the headlights are on and off. This setting could interact with the dashboard dial settings.

I'm not sitting in my truck right now, so I can't play with the menus to find the setting at the moment.
