A full tank of fuel is included in base weight. So you wouldn't subtract the fuel.

7100-1324=5776, your base weight. Real close to your guesstimate of 5718...maybe you lost some weight and didn't know it;)(actually the fact you didn't have a full tank of gas)

And remember the website is for a configuration not a specific truck

certainly the numbers have confused me. I weighed mine at CAT scale and got 5960#. if I subtract me: 222#, the 20# of emergency gear I keep under the back seat and 120# for the 1/2 tank of fuel I had at the time, I get 5598# for the empty truck. that theoretically would give me 1502# of capacity..7100-5598=1502. my doorjamb sticker shows only 1324# available, not near what the chart on the ram website shows, so I just pack light when towing.
You got to fuel up full tank of gas before CAT scale.

If you subtract 1324 from 7100 it shows a weight of 5776. 5960-222-20+120 (the payload is calculated from curb weight, which includes a full tank) the result is 5838. Maybe it was 3/4 tank and not half? The 62# difference is about 10 gallons of gas.

Well, according to the Texas department of transportation, its illegal for them to advertise more than what it really has. Legally, they will either have to put me in a new truck or refund my money. Not only that, I'm being advised by my attorney to blow the whistle which would lead to a massive recall. God only knows how many people out there are exceeding their true capabilities.
Update. After fighting with the dealership and Ram for 2 months, I filed my complaint and won. I was able to return my falsely advertised 2500 for a full refund and got my 3500. Funny that Ram has also changed the information on their site.

It appears that Mopar website was updated to display specific truck build payload, not just generic payload numbers. Mine is now matches 100% doorjamb.

Awesome. @Dawn very surprised by this. Great that you held out and won your case.
Thanks for keeping us updated
Thank you but it was definitely not an easy fight. I spent 6 weeks getting F you's from the dealership and FCA. Don't think for one second that we aren't watching our backs waiting for some sort of retaliation.

Good luck to you. I appreciate the fight you fought. Very glad to see they had to do something about this very confusing configurator they let lie to everyone.

I really thought it wouldn't happen, but I am extremely impressed with the outcome.

Hope it goes well for you here on out.

Dawn, congratulations on winning that fight!

I was in a similar situation with a ‘19 RAM 1500 that we leased to tow an 27’ Airstream Travel trailer. Took me 7 months and finally got FCA to offer “dealer assistance” to buy the truck back. Dealer said it wasn’t enough compensation to make them whole.

We finally agreed to buy a RAM 2500 and the dealer took the 1500 back. Cost me $$$ but we got out from under a truck with 1220 lbs. payload (RAM said it was 1840) into one with 2940 lbs. Tows the Airstream like a champ! *Airstreams are heavy on the tongue - ours is 1100# 87C4D64A-6F5A-4BAD-BDF9-72B47004C7C1.jpeg

Congratulations to you too. That's a beautiful truck and a beautiful airstream!

It still blows my mind that the dealership and FCA tried to convince me that my 2500 could handle a 16000 pound fifth wheel. Maybe it could but there's a big difference between capable and legal and I for one love my family, my 80k truck and my low car insurance rates and would prefer not to play Russian roulette..
