Lifter Failure Before 30k miles

Just dropped my truck off for the second time for a lifter issue. The first was back in October lifters had to be replaced on cylinders 5 and 7. Today check engine light came on again and the same rough idle and drive started to happen. Diagnosed as cylinder 2 this time. The truck has 26.5k miles on it. Still waiting to see what they are going to do. I don't understand why they wouldn't just replace all the lifters. Get the job over and done with!

Anyone else have lifter failure issues?

I thought these lifter issues were cleared up a few years ago? Unfortunate to hear but good thing they are covering it under warranty. Hopefully its an isolated case, and not another common problem as it was a few years ago.

Have you though about disabling MDS and blocking off the ports since you already have the upper end of the motor apart?

No. I don't mind the MDS, unless it is the cause of the problem. They called today and said there is also a blocked up injector on cylinder 2. I always use the same gas and grade. I may need to switch where I fill up.
 
I've been hearing some lifters noise in cold mornings too.
Kinda got used to them cause my other truck has DoD lifters which are noisy too.

What brand and grade gas?
 
Interesting that such a "young" motor would have lifter issues like that. And let's be honest, it's not like lifters are anything new, and I can't imagine them failing for any real reason short of no lubrication, and with respect to MDS, I believe it operates on cylinders 1, 4, 6, and 7, but please don't hold me to that. Just what I found, and that being the case, then only cylinder 7 is an MDS cylinder that failed. I'm curious if there's an issue with the cam that may be causing issues with the lifters.

I found this video regarding lifter failure. Not sure if this pertains to the issues here, but none the less, interesting. Do yourself a favor and start @ 9:40

i had this happen on my 2016 silverado at 22k miles. took out cam and lifters. engine was trashed.
 
My brother had a 79 Chevy Impala which had the lobes round out around 100k miles. Most chevy's had this issue back then (305/350) as GM was making their cams soft. I would have hoped we learned a few things in metallurgy and lubricants over the past 40 years. LOL
 
I have a lifter that’s noisy after cold start. Dealer said it was normal, which is coming from #7 area which is mds cylinder. Lifters still seem to be somewhat common place still. Injectors seem to be common also, even through the Chrysler product line.
 
Our 2014 had lifters and cam replaced (at 130,000 miles). Supposedly, the lifter problem was fixed as of the 2016 model year. Ours has been fine since the replacement (35,000 miles ago).

california is original warranty duration, so that's 3/36 for you.

. The manufacturer or its agents have made two or more attempts to repair a warranty problem that results in a condition that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven. OR 2. The manufacturer or its agents have made four or more attempts to repair the same warranty problem. If required by the warranty materials or by the owner’s manual, the consumer must directly notify the manufacturer about the problem(s), preferably in writing. The notice must be sent to the address shown in the warranty or owner’s manual (for 1 and 2 above). OR 3. The vehicle has been out of service for more than 30 days (not necessarily consecutively) while being repaired for any number of warranty problems and the problems must be covered by the warranty, substantially reduce the vehicle’s use, value, or safety to the consumer and are not caused by abuse of the vehicle.

I thought the engine warranty was 5/60 or something like that?
