Getting my ram with air suspension Friday and had a couple questions. Do the trucks ride smoother with air and when you have the suspension aired up all the way to maximum height be able to drive at regular in town speeds.

I'm not sure what you are asking but the truck will lower itself once over about 45 MPH to reduce wind resistance. The air suspension is smoother than the standard coil especially when carrying a load. I haven't tried driving it with the system in the all-the-way up position so I don't know how that would ride but I would imagine that would be a rough ride compared to down since you are reducing the suspension's ability to move.

It rides smoother when it works correctly. It will automatically lower itself to normal ride height if you are in off road mode and hit city speeds and then will lower more to aero mode for highway.

If you live in Canada or northern states where it gets snow/cold in the winter, i suggest switching to another truck. The air ride system on the rams are complete junk.

From someone with air ride, this is applicable for the Rebel but very similar to other trims:

The rebel has 4 modes: Entry/Exit, Aero, Normal, Off-Road.

The new air system as opposed to the old system (which was junk) runs on an closed loop nitrogen system, negating the issue of air freezing in colder climates as others state on the forum - I'm actually looking for someone with a '19 to post up a cold/hot weather issue so far.

The truck rides great/smooth in Aero - stiffer in Normal - very stiff in OffRoad.

OffRoad will auto lower to Normal or Aero (depending on where you left the system last) after 27mph as OR mode is maxing the suspension geometry for daily driving.

There's also a setting for 'Auto Aero' which will lower from Normal > Aero at 67mph+ and raise back to Normal below 27mph.

Entry/Exit will auto raise after 17mph to your last setting (Aero/Normal)

I've also owned many air ride equipped cars and trucks in the past - air is not something to be scared of unless you don't understand how it works

Good response. This is also true for non-Rebels that have both air suspension and Off-Road Group. Trucks that don’t have the latter ride 1” lower in Normal mode and have 5 air suspension instead of 4 (Off Road 1 and 2 instead of just “Off Road” mode).

Last Sunday my truck was completely dead in my driveway. Battery was showing 5.5 volts. After charging battery and starting truck the suspension went into entry/exit mode and would not raise at all even though the air pump was running constantly. Warnings popped up saying "service air suspension immediately " and that the system was overheated. Truck towed to dealer yesterday. No results yet

Yikes! eTorque eqiupped? if so, it's possible the 48v pack is dead also, causing the air system to malfunction. The pump could also have been running constantly evacuating the bags back into the holding tank if the suspension dropped and never raised up w/a running pump.

Doesn't sound like weather was the issue though, nor suspension causing the dead battery (so far) Good luck!

Its the same system as the old one. My 2016 was close looped with nitrogen. In the winter the bags leak and once the nitrogen is depleted it brings in outside air from behind the tail light. That air has moisture and freezes up the valves. Its why i traded my 16 in for my 19 with no air ride and i 100% regret my decision. My 19 has had a bunch of issues that shouldnt even be a thing. Should have just spent the $2k and swapped the air ride out for regular suspension. Ill never buy another ram again.

Oh...2400 miles delivered April 2019...Love the truck ...the only way I could get the pump to shut down was to remove 20A fuse.

Buying a $67,000 truck to replace your other $65,000 truck that had issues and having issues with the new truck will do that to you. Should have listened to the wife and bought a Denali

It’s actually not the same system, but that’s beside the point. Sorry to hear about your continuing issues!

Dealer called and said one of the airbags was collapsed and they are ordering a new one. Battery checks out ok...but I just charged it so of course its ok...a little worrisome because the truck has never been off road and or towed...Hmmm Be a week before I get it back.

I love my air ride, in my opinion one of the best options. @goose2 just to add, as noted above the entry/exit mode raises itself at speed, but you can ride slowly in a low carpark or under barriers which can be useful. It takes a moment or so to fully lower from normal to entry/exit so I set it on the approach so I'm sure its down before I get to a barrier to avoid stopping.
