So I have a big horn quad cab with 8k miles on it. About a month ago it makes this groaning noise that changes pitch with the speed...lower pitch when slow, higher pitch when going faster. It has done this several more times randomly. When I shut the truck off and restart it the noise goes away.I took a technician at a local dealership for a ride and asked him what he thought. He said it sounds like a dying whale and had never heard a noise like that before coming from a vehicle. Thoughts?

Didn't the tech say anything about attempting to resolve your concern about this noise?? I will listen to mine today, but so far have not heard any noise like your posting here.

He didn't know what it was..I already brought it in once for this issue and they couldn't recreate the noise..like I said it happens randomly and goes away if you shut the truck off and restart it...of course they didn't have time to look at the truck in their shop the day I stopped in and took the tech for a drive..

Hi @Benji80,

We're sorry to hear this is happening in your Ram! Please send us a private message with your VIN, mileage, and dealer so that we can investigate this further.

I’m having same issues on my Laramie! It’s gotten so loud it’s embarrassing. I’ve videoed it and will play for the tech

Mine did this once about two months ago. It wouldn’t stop until I pulled off the road and shut the engine off. After restarting it, it went away and has never occurred again.

There are several threads about this noise. A lot of 2019 owners are experiencing the same thing, including me.

Two ways to confirm if it the ANC active noise canceling module.. when it makes that drone sound as I describe mine...roll down a window 4-5” for a few seconds to see if the sound goes away . 2) under the driver seat is a silver box ANC module unplug the two cannon plug and see if it stops making the sound.. if the sounds goes away with either method it’s a bad ANC module. My tech told me last week when mine was replaced Ram is coming out with a software update by mid March 19 to address the problem... my ANC was replaced only once made the drone sound briefly and has come back in over 100 miles
Good Luck

So, it may be an ANC problem. I think the ANC is trying to compensate for some kind of noise it is hearing so it generates the frequency it thinks will cancel out the noise it is hearing through the microphones. So the underlying problem is a noise the truck is making somewhere that the microphones are picking up. The skid plate resonating may be the noise that the ANC is trying to compensate for.

They looked at my truck in their shop the other day and still couldn't figure out what it was. This was after I took a tech for a drive and he definitely heard the noise. They said they couldn't recreate the noise and everything was operating as designed at this point. Did you ever find out what it was? Mine did it again the other day.

No, haven't took it in yet, waiting on the brake pedal parts to come in so I can get everything done in one trip. There is TSB on the active noise system TSB # 08-088-18 . Have your dealer look it up. Have some back seat passengers when they try to duplicate the noise, mine only does it when there are backseat passengers for some reason.

I found this forum because I too had this experience. I rented a brand new 2019 1500 BigHorn with 50 miles on it 4 days ago from Enterprise. This sucker was great! Quiet ride plenty of power etc. Handsome ride! (looking for a new truck and renting them for a week is the best way I found to really check one out!) All was good for the first two days. On day three we picked up a passenger (my wife) who took the back seat. (Her choice). The truck was NOT turned off and before we drove out of the neighborhood it started sounding like a Pod Racer from Star Wars! Sound just as described in this thread. Incredible! On the way to Enterprise to swapbif out we did not have a backseat passenger and the noise was gone. I don’t know anything more to say

I took mine in for the brake pedal recall and told the service manager about the droning noise and also said I found on this forum that there was a TSB for the fix. When he called to tell me the recall was done he said the tech got the noise to repeat but the TSB's were not for my truck because of the build date.
He said as of right now they didn't have a fix for it and the engineers were working on it. So,, I'm back at square one I guess.

I had them update the anc system..I'm 90 percent sure that is where the noise was coming from. Hasn't made the noise since the update so hopefully that issue has been resolved

First heard this noise on a long, long drive. Headed down to Florida from Ohio, around Forsythe, GA we stopped to grab food and as we were leaving it sounded like a train rolling through, but wasnt sure it actually came from my truck. Parked at the hotel for the night and haven't heard it in months. Today it's back and my radio was turned down so I heard it more clearly. I'm no animal expert, but I'm pretty sure it's a whale mating call. Kept turning my radio up and down to make sure it wasn't the song. If I hear that noise the whole way to work tomorrow, I might just give the truck what it's asking for and drive it straight into the ocean.

Hi GWOT_made,
We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing this. If this continues to happen and you decide to have your dealer address this, we would be happy to add an additional layer of assistance to this process!

My 2019 Ram 1500 just started this crazy noise today. Fine one minute, stopped for gas, then DANG, on restart, a loud MOAN, like the engine was straining, but rpm's were fine. Shut off radio, rolled down windows, NO Change. Got home, let vehicle sit for an hour, called Service department of purchasing dealer - (clueless), went back out to check, and problem GONE.....???? Fords (F-150) for 40 plus years, hope I haven't made a $50K mistake. Great experience up until now......if someone finds the fix, Please post. Also, a fluke with the uConnect display...went out yesterday, back on today????
