Hi,

I recently purchased a new generation 2019 Ram 1500 Limited with the air ride suspension and all the trailer towing features to tow my existing light weight 5th wheel. I am now being told that I can't install the 5th wheel slider hitch on rails+ as I have the air suspension system. My previous truck was a 2016 1500 Ram Rebel with air suspension and I hauled the 5th wheel with it. Has anyone run into this issue? I can't believe this has not been thought through as they redesigned the truck or is the aftermarket industry just not up to speed yet?

Thanks
Dean

This is awesome. As most of these had right around 1000lbs of payload...this shows the RAM can get it done.

Very anxious to hear how you 5th wheel guys enjoy your 5th Gen towing one.

Camping trip Friday for us...anxious to camp and see if there are any 5th Gens out here in PA.

Good luck with finding the hitch...hope they have it for you.

To update the thread, I am hearing from multiple sources that the issue is the air suspension. The aftermarket manufacturers have come up with kits for the non air suspension trucks, but they are still working on the kits for the 1500 with air. Some kits are shown, but it sounds like they use a "universal kit" that is not recommended. That is from two sources now. Looks like it is a waiting game. I am told 2-5 weeks.

went to Camping World the other day after i got the brake recall done .... looked at the Cougar 29RDB ... it is labeled as a "half ton" model ... they also had several other models that all weighed about the same but this is the one that most fit our needs .... afterwards i did some research, got an email from the salesman and here is my email back to him ....

i have been busy researching this since we were there the other day .... here is where i am so far ..
got the blk trk weighted on the way home at the landfill, certified scale ... 6420 #s with ann, me and the dog .. includes cap and wooden gun storage box ... door sticker payload sticker for the blk trk is 1577 #s .. Leer cap weights 300 #s .. wooden gun storage box weights 100 #s ... GVW for blk trk is 7100 #s ...B&W Patriot Slider Fth Whl hitch total weight 452 #s (etrailer) ... Cougar 29RDB dry weight is 8325 #s (CW site) cargo capty is 1975 #s which make the 29RDB GVW at 10,300 #s and keystone site says the hitch weight is 1520 #s ... so now to put these numbers together ....
Blk trk real weight = 6420 #s
Leer cap weight = - 300 #s
wood gun storage box = - 100 #s
blk trk real EMPTY = 6020 #s
blk trk GVW = 7100 #s
net payload blk trk = 1080 #s
B&W FW hitch = 452 #s
net payload after hitch = 628 #s
Cougar 29RDB hitch wt = 1520 #s
net payload w/ trl = 892 #s over payload weight

so, i looked at this from a different point of view .... and keep it simple

blk trk payload says 1577 #s
Cougar hitch wt says 1520 #s
net payload is 57 #s for all passengers and cargo in the trk

Ram says my trks GCVWR is 17,000 #s
Cougar say 29RDB GCVWR is 10,300 #s
that leaves 6,700 #s for my trk that has a GVWR of 7,100 #s
therefore loaded for dry camping i can expect the combined vehicle weight to be 400 #s overweight even ignoring the payload problem

the biggest problems is the over payload, the second biggest problem is over GCVWR ... in total review i do not see how ANY Ram 1/2 ton will LEGALLY be able to tow this Fifth Wheel trailer

note: i do NOT think this is what the salesman wanted to hear

I have yet to find an "approved " rail kit for the 2019 frame to even get the 5th wheel rails, and hitch installed.

Purchased a new 2019 Ram 2500 4X4 Limited. Great truck, but its been a nightmare trying to getting the hardware to tow my 32’ 5th wheel. Like mentioned in the thread the after market company were caught with their pants down. I was counting on adding the rail kit from Reese to mount my slider and hitch, but they don’t make the frame brackets and rail kits yet.
So I am biting the bullet and up-fitting the truck with the OEM Puck system/ Gooseneck hardware. Very, very pricy too do, but no other option if I want to tow my trailer. Reese does make a adaptor frame to fit in the puck system, to adapt my current slider and hitch. It’s taken over a month to get the hardware and still waiting on the installation to be done.

i bought a 2500 Big Horn and the same day ordered a B&W 5th wheel hitch from eTrailer ... two days later the hitch was delivered and that same day it took me one and a half hours to install the hitch .... had to wait a week to get enough mileage on the new trk to tow the 33' 5th wheel
