Anyone else running dedicated winter tires? Im running Falken Winterpeak 275/60-20 on my spare set of wheels for the sub 45* season. Results have been spectacular so far.

I picked up takeoff rims for a good price, and run Nokian snow/ice tires in the winter. I have a 2wd Ram, and they work really great for me.

Question for those of you familiar....This is coming from a guy that grew up in TX, where we practically never get snow, but get ice a couple of times a year (never had a need for winter tires)...

There is a relatively high likely hood we are moving to Columbus, OH between now and winter 26/27. Should I plan for "winter tires" or is that far enough south to not worry about it?

Ive been in some snowy situations in Ohio, not as bad as Michigan, but they do get some cold temps and snow. Pretty much have to have a second set of wheels and run them for 3-4 months in the cold season then switch back to regular all seasons the rest of the year.

I live in a ski town in BC and have dedicated snow tires on my rebel. They're Firestone destination X/T which seem to work quite well and where a great price at Costco. For whatever reason, the stock Duratracs aren't winter rated in the 285 size and insurance won't cover accidents on highways where I live unless you have the snowflake.

I have run dedicated studded snow tires on most every vehicle I have had since I left Texas. Before then and after one vehicle didn't get snow tires. In hind sight I saved at the time $500 and it ended up costing me $3500, totaled Chrysler AWD minivan, it couldn't slow down of stop in my driveway on wet snow one night and the wondrous ABS system wouldn't even slow the tires down.
I ran Cooper Winter Master studded tires for many years on several vehicles, I got my last Coopers in 2015 on a RAM 1500. They were the worst snow tires I have had. The pickup spun out and couldn't make the driveway (it is a very steep twisty driveway) My wife's little Chevy Tracker drove right up past where I was stuck with the pickup, I had walked 2/3's of the way down and waited for her to get home. Then I drove that car up with no issues. Cooper never responded to emails or contacts. The next week I put on my first set of the Nokian studded snows, I've never looked back since. Just put the new ones on the new to me 2022 RAM 2500 last week.
It was not an inexpensive project, I purchased wheels earlier this year about $900, then tpms sensors almost $200, then the major hurt LT3 275/70R18 studded tires $1432, then to finish the job $70 for center caps on the wheels.

Blizzak LTs for winter up here in Canada. I would also look hard at the Hakka LT3. Also awesome.

I'm near Chicago and as long as you have 4X4, normally you'll be good. If worried, find a 3 peak rated tire like Falken Wildpeak AT4W to run all year.

I second this. I live in Central PA and use a 3-peak rated tire all year. No one that I know runs a dedicated winter set or studded set unless it’s a 2-wheel drive sedan. Go with what you are comfortable with though.
