Will any code reader read pending codes?

Hi all,
I have a cheap code reader, but I don't know whether it would tell me if there's a pending code set. My truck has kind of stuttered once or twice when taking off gently from a stop, but the check engine light has not come on and the code reader says no dtc's found. Can I be confident that I would know about pending codes if there were some, or do some readers not show pending code?

My older scan gauge (circa 2010) was not able to read a CEL code recently. It defaulted to P0000 and the SA since let me know it had stored misfire codes. YMMV.

I have an ancient AutoXray 6000 that will report active and pending trouble codes. I believe that anything beyond a basic code reader (think "scan tool") should do the same.
Edit - I'm not sure I've ever used it successfully on my 2019 Ram, however. But it works for every other vehicle I've tested. Including my '13 Wrangler.

Maybe not. My $20 code reader doesn’t read everything, but jscan and car scanner work fine
