It's really just the golden rule, and I try (REALLY try) to remind myself that every day, treat someone as you would want to be treated. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it gets forgotten a lot. If we all were to do this in everyday transactions, it does make a difference. Be polite, smile, say thank you, and use simple manners. No one is superior to another. No one gets out alive, be kind and helpful to others, even if ignorant or just lazy. Try not to judge, just react with kindness and generosity. No one knows what you or anyone else has been through that day to be standing in front of you at that moment, try and leave them in a better place than you met them in.
