I think that many will know this...but I do not. What is the round black part directly in front of the yellow oil dipstick?

If you have a samsung phone: open the image on your phone, tap and hold on the bottom of the phone to popup the google search, draw with your finger around the part, google AI searches and responds with this:

"The component shown is likely a vacuum pump for a power brake booster".

I tried with the yellow funny looking thing there right behind it, and it said this:

"well obviously this is not a hurricane engine".

Odd.

power brake vacuum pump

For those who say it's for brake vacuum. Why would it need such a thing if the engine intake manifold provides vacuum directly to the brake booster?

Steve
Take it out, see what happens.

Most likely because of the safety systems to provide more consistent and powerful vacuum.

"The EVP (3), located on the front of the engine, assists the vacuum system in maintaining adequate vacuum to the power brake booster under all operating conditions"

Because when you start advancing and retarding cam timing and disabling cylinders, the vacuum supply can get sketchy
