What does "Full–Speed Forward–Collision Warning Plus" Do?

My 2019 has now activated the brakes (HARD!) three different times in the past four months. It has done it at the exact same place on my drive home from work. Its when I am stopped under a bridge waiting for traffic in front of me to move. When it moves and I start to move the FCW kicks in and slams the brakes on. Today I almost got rear ended. So I have now set it to warning only, which completely sucks because I want the active braking as it could save me from an accident. However I have to disable the braking because it is actively trying to get me into an accident.

From reading on other forums this seems to be a problem when going under bridges as many people have called that out.
Yep, happens to me once or twice a week - always under the same overpass when I'm almost stopped in heavy traffic.

So far mine hasn't stopped for anything that wasn't legit. It has locked up the brakes (breaks) when my tailgate was down, but I'd rather have it do that than letting me smash my bumper into a pole I can't see.

I'm glad this thread popped up, because I didn't know FCW was adjustable. I don't drive fast, but I do make aggressive maneuvers and I've had the FCW give me the aural warning and brake tap when it wasn't necessary. I read the manual and it recommends selecting "Near" sensitivity for aggressive driving. Mine was set at "medium".

The auto stop reverse is different than the collision avoidance. My 20 had the reverse stop. When I first got it I didn't know it did. The first time I backed up with the gate down, I didn't know what was wrong, and thought something was broken. I am now driving a 21 Durango, while waiting on my 23, and it won't back up at all with the door not shut all the way. That is a major PITA. I had to go around someone at a gas pump, to the open pump. I pulled around, and backed to the pump. I got out and saw I needed to back up another foot or foot and a half. I got in and tried to back up without shutting the door. Car wouldn't move. You have to shut the door, then shift back in to park, then shift in to reverse to move. Sometimes I like to back up with the door open but it is now impossible.

I realize that. I was responding to those that said their trucks were stopping for exhaust steam and shadows.

Also, its "funny" that you, myself and TTFD753 have all called out the problem with the bridges and all 3 of our trucks are the Delmonico Red.
Must be the Red! :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, still happens, almost everytime I go over the Commodore Barry Bridge.. yet it does not happen on any other bridge I've been on.. even ones of similar design.

had the warning scream at me a couple times. Most of the time it was nothing (likely to be going under an overpass, don't really remember) but the only time i remember was when the only car in front of me slowing down was about 6 car lengths in front of me and I was applying brake long before that.
no idea why no idea how that happened.

I agree, that is a pain. You should be able to back up with the door open if your seatbelt is fastened. I bought an adapter that clicks into the seatbelt buckle so I can accomplish this without actually fastening the belt.

I don't think the seatbelt matters. If the door is open, no moving. Same with foot on brake to shift in to gear. When you go through car washes, you have to put in neutral. At the end I have had to hit the brake before I could shift into drive, while still at end of wash, after rolling forward. Didn't have to jam them, but the wash drive hit the tire.

That's odd. I actually just backed into my garage this morning with the door open (had various things strewn about from a project but I wanted to get the truck in the garage before the rain). I wonder if your Limited has some extra nannies that my Laramie does not have

I haven't picked up the new truck yet. This is on my 21 Durango. The trucks may not have that yet, cars get things years before trucks sometimes. ( Catalytic converters, third brake lights). Could be one of those government mandate safety things on cars only, who knows. All I know, is they are safetying us to death.

Yeah, no one wants to be unsafe, but no one wants to be inconvenienced either. I’ve made it through my whole life without running over myself, pretty sure I don’t need an electronic baby sitter to look out for me

Great thread. I was unaware that this FCW included Medium and Braking as the default setting when I checked it. I’ve had the alarm warning go off several times driving forward but it never activated the brakes in forward. It’s braked in reverse several times when something was actually to close. It’s good that I now know how it’s supposed to work and how to disable the braking feature if desired.

FCW works just fine for me. It's build for safety. Some algorithm used, which is preventing forward collision, I had few times warning, but never brakes were released. Knocking the wood. I switched from 4th to 5th Gen. RaM not for 12" screen, but for all these new advanced features. Otherwise I would have just continue to drive my '14.
