What do you permanently store in your lower door pocket?

Hey fellas,

I’m trying to build a real-world “always-in-the-door” list for pick-up trucks. Not what you tossed in there today, but the stuff that lives in your lower door pocket 90% of the time. It’ll help me (and everyone here) figure out what actually fits, what rattles, and which, if any, insulated Yeti-style canisters work best.

Attached are the results from the boys in an f150 forum, now we're asking Ram and GM owners next.

If you’ve got a minute, drop a reply.
I’ll compile everyone’s answers and post it back in this thread in case anyone wants to borrow some ideas from the list.

Vendor note for transparency: I make a door organizer for these trucks, but this thread is purely data-gathering for fit/use. Thanks for sharing what works in your truck, and hopefully you can get value from this thread.

Mine holds air most of the time. At least the front doors. My rear drivers side door holds the fuel funnel and bottle for fuel additive I use.

There is so much storage options in these trucks, my door pockets are the last place I'd put stuff

Below are some common replies, feel free to copy/paste!

-Pens/pencils/Sharpies...
-dip can/Zyn can...
-sunglasses, (in case or not)...
-business cards (how many)...
-multi-tool/leatherman....
-other folding knife...
-pistol (what make/model and does it have a light/sight)....
-tape measure (how many ft)....
-hand sanitizer (pump bottle or not)....
-water bottle/Yeti (make/size).....
-any other items not listed....

May I ask the main reason that your doorwell stays empty? (it's in the 'hot' zone that can be reached while driving with one hand). Is it a rattling issue? Losing stuff? Want it to look cleaner?
Thanks again, and your truck is gorgeous btw.

Stock foam bottle insert
Gloves, beanies
Dude wipes
Nothing that rattles or falls out when the door is shut
Thank you so much for this info!! hugely helpful. Do you mind if I ask what style of gloves (because it effects sizing). Are they nitrile rubber-dipped type? Fully insulated? Leather?
Also, how many Dude Wipes do you keep usually at one time? Like when you get empty and there's none left, how many do you re-stock with?
Thanks again

48 count pack of wipes fit great. Refill with the same.
Winter type of fleece gloves

It's really not that easily reached while driving. Our center consoles have so much storage room in them, there really isn't a need to put anything in the door pockets. Easier to reach in and grab stuff out of center console. Plus mine came with a locking gun safe from the factory if I ever need to leave my pistol in the truck. Otherwise, my carry weapon stays on my body, where it belongs. I do have the factory foam insert for can/bottle holder that I use every now and then, when traveling with the whole family, but even then, I have four cup holders in the center console alone, which fits my needs 99% of the time .

In OE foam cupholders:
  • Cool Seal Team Gator glasses in soft bag
  • Extra pistol mags
  • Sharpie
In back section:
  • Giant Keywad (for trailers, etc.) (named "Keywad" in my Tile app)
  • Tire gauges
  • PETZL headlamp (though more often in the back door)

A tourniquet

Good idea.

I keep an IFAK strapped to the back of the driver seat, and there's another in the "box" that sits in the back center section. I guess if I needed it for myself in some rollover or other situation where I couldn't reach it, I'd be f**ked.

I keep a cheap fixed blade knife and belt cutter in the overhead sunglass cubby. I use to keep a small belt cutter on my keyring but that tears up the clothes.

Thank you so much for this friend! Does the keywad rattle at all?

One of those multitools with a knife blade, pliers, and other folding bits. A small spray bottle of isopropyl alcohol (as hand sanitizer).

Everything else goes somewhere else.
Thanks so much. This will be a weird question, but is it like a spray bottle that you have to pick up and depress each time it's used? 1759430867842.png

Not weird if you are making caddys/organizers. I've been thinking about getting a 3D printer.

This is also useful to clean windows (mostly haze on the inside) and Windex is a lousy hand sanitizer. I refill the bottle with 91% IPA; About a dozen good shots at that strength will kill a wasp and leaves no residue. I get wasp nests in door jambs, under the hood, and other spots.
