Hey guys,

I"m looking to buy a used Big Horn. V8, 4x4. I wanted 3.92 gears but all the used ones have 3.21 gears. I tow a bass boat so it shouldn't be an issue.

My main concern is that at the price point I'm looking at, they have high mileage for a year. This is because most of these trucks are offloaded from rental agencies. So I'll see anywhere from 20k to 40k. Assuming regular maintenance was kept, should I be concerned at all?

well, being out of warranty would be a major consideration for me. That could get expensive, depending on how well rental agency maintained truck.

It's a 2019 Ram, new design. It should still be under warranty right?

We bought our BigHorn Lvl 2, eTorque Hemi 4x4 3.21 from Enterprise, with 14k and 9 months in service. Couldn't be happier. Except for some moderate scratches on the bed the truck is just immaculate, perfectly clean, no mechanical or other problems whatsoever (except for common glitches and Gremlins). Full documentation incl. 5k oil changes, recalls done (all up to date) etc. Factory warranty still valid until 60k on powertrain, 36k on everything else.

6,000 trouble free and joyful miles so far. Saved me BIG bucks, this one. I would definitely do it again.

Thanks for the response. The vehicle I'm looking at is a certified pre-owned vehicle. So correct me if I'm wrong, but that means that the 3000 miles or 3 month bumper 2 bumper warranty starts the day after I purchase correct? Even if the original bumper to bumper warranty already expired? The vehicle has 40k miles (but again, certified pre-owned)

I'm basing this info off this article:

"Certified pre-owned" means different things to different dealerships. You would need to check with the seller to know for sure just what that means for them. To the local Chevy dealership, it meant 12 months, 12k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. At my local CDJR dealership it means 3 month 3600 mile warranty.

Where are you located? I live in Illinois and found a dealer that had 5-6 2019's - V8, crew cab, 4x4, level 2 package and around 15,000 miles for just over $33k. No 3.92 though. Mine stickered for $48k, bought it for $32,800 with 11,000 miles. I couldn't find anywhere else in a 200 mile radius priced that low but they seem to always have a few on hand. They also have a bunch of quad cabs. I don't mind buying used and letting someone else take the hit. My previous vehicle, which is now my wifes, was a Traverse we bought with 17,000 miles, it now has 156,000 miles with no major issues.

So I went to the chrysler website here:

I called the number on the top right. The lady I spoke with verified that Chrysler certified pre-owned (it seems from the manufacturer), comes with a 7 year or 100k mile powertrain warranty, and an additional 3 month 3000 mile warranty. That 3000 mile warranty is either tacked on to the end of the 3/36k original warranty, OR, it starts from the date of purchase.

The Ram Bighorn I'm looking at has 40k miles. So it's high mileage for sure. But seeing as it's CPO, and has all the features I want. The price is $29k exactly out the door.

Interesting. I'm just basing my info off the official CPO website Chrysler has. It seems that dealerships can offer additional warranty, but the minimum is 3 month / 3000 bumper to bumper

Prices seem to have risen a bit since I got mine in Berwyn, IL in Nov 2019. Listed $29900, got it for $28200. Level 2 Bighorn Hemi eTorque with 15300 miles, pristine condition. Mine's a quad, but they had a crew-cab on the lot for that same price back then (no eTorque, though).

That's a killer deal, was that OTD or before tax and title?

I wish it was OTD... $2800 on top of that in taxes and fees . Still, I think it was a decent deal, especially considering the really great condition of the truck.

Took me two days to buy it, as the dealer tried to push a "mandatory delivery fee" of $990 after we negotiated the price, to which I stood up and walked. They called next morning and "were able to waive that for me" LOL.

Don't worry too much. My limited was a rental, 19,000 miles when I bought it. Build date is 6-19, so still have until 6-22 or a out 16,000 more miles on the B-B warranty. Whenever I rent a veh I am SUPER careful not to scratch it, and I believe most people are like that. My truck had been flawless with only a couple tiny tiny scratches that I took out with Scratch X. Got a great deal too. IMG_20200304_145213318_HDR.jpg

I live in Eastern NC. With v8, 4x4, 3.21, and level two equipment package (or around there), most rams are selling from $31,000-$34,000 for around 20k. Anything less than $30k would be a pretty good deal, especially if it's OTD pricing.

Pretty truck. Believe it or not, around here I've yet to see an actual DT in that color. The dealers around are obviously lacking imagination.

Good luck with your new ride.
