2024 Ram Laramie. Was having zero problems connecting to CarPlay previously. Was driving something else for three weeks. Got back in truck and suddenly CarPlay no longer works if I have my VPN service on. I even tried plugging the phone to charger. Only thing that works is plugging phone to charger with the vpn disconnected. I run with VPN always on. CarPlay worked previously. Can I change something so this CarPlay will work again? I don't know if this is an Apple problem or a ram problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto use a dedicated private wifi connection between your phone and the infotainment system. Anything that interferes with that connection will break connectivity. By default as a security measure, most VPN clients do not allow connections between your phone and local devices on whatever wifi network you're connected to. However there is usually a setting to enable this. I don't know what VPN client you're using, but I use PIA and it's simply called "Allow LAN traffic" in the app's Network settings. I know you said it was working previously, but that is the first setting you should check to make sure it's enabled. Maybe an app update toggled it off or something.

Thanks I will go look. I use proton. Now today even with vpn off I cannot get CarPlay to connect. Truck just isn't seeing it. I did just download the latest Apple OS so maybe something there? I guess I am calling tech support at Apple tomorrow. The tech support at Ram seems to know less than I do about how networks work. Phone was not see the trucks wifi but now that is back.

"I did just download the latest Apple OS", are you talking about the iOS 26 public beta, or iOS 18.6?

18.6 I should have clarified. Not a fan of the software / tech setup on this truck.
