Video on 12" screen?

If you hook up a iPhone, can video be played on the 12" screen? How about a DVD?

Depends on state law. All of them prohibit it while driving, some prohibit it always.

I just didn't know if the screen had capabilities like that in general or if it wasn't really an iPad like screen being able to display anything depending on the app running. If parked somewhere, could I put on a video for my kids to watch for instance? Not a biggie just curious.
