Shopping local dealers for a used 2021 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock V6 -quite a few available.
A couple have the Class IV Receiver Hitch option-
V6 tow limit = 7,730 lb.
Class III hitch limit = 6,000 lb.
Class IV hitch limit = 10,000 lb
Q:
Assume that the Class IV hitches were special ordered over the std Class III.
Seems the Hemi (not V6) would be the choice for loads requiring a Class IV hitch.
Concern: a V6 with a Class IV hitch could have been pulling upper tow limit or above limit loads.
Reasonable concern/suspicion? Wise to avoid a V6 with the Class IV hitch option?
Thanks for your time.
P.S: any observations/insight regarding shopping a 2021 Classic Warlock V6 also appreciated!

Wouldn’t be a concern of mine just because it has a hitch rated higher then the trucks tow limit doesn’t mean it was towed over the limit. Its also a 2021… remember that awful 2020 year with parts shortage could very well mean thats what the factory had available to keep the truck on track to being built. Look the truck over and test drive it, if everything seems fine and the numbers work make the purchase.

PurpleRT, thanks for your reply-
As noted, quite a few of these 2021's on the lots here -many lower/higher VINS with the Class III. Parts shortage possible but suspect not.
Window sticker "Class III Bumper Hitch standard" -some for sale don't have a box receiver, but maybe that means ball can be installed on the bumper(?)
Also: Class IV was a $345 option, plus brake controller $295.
I'm risk-averse -would look for issues on a test drive but maybe an overworked motor/trans won't be too obvious yet?
Asking this Q about Class IV b/c one Warlock with that hitch appears to have a nice price.

4th gen classic are still made till this day well at least 24s. easy way to tell if its 6 lugs = new body DT. If its 5 lug its a 4th “classic” body style.

Slightly different angle - the Class IV receiver is beefier than the Class III setup, so would be the better choice for any engine.

Having said that, the 6 will not have the raw open-road power of a hemi, but if you are patient will still get you from point A to B. Are the transmission and axles the same?

And depending on where you are, a lot of used trucks could be from farm use, and pulling two or three grain wagons at 25MPH isn't really very stressful.

I'd be more hesitant about the ones with monster mudder tires. Toys tend to be abused more than trucks that someone relied on to make a living.

OK, these 2021 Classic Warlocks are 5 lug-
Does this thread need to be moved to the 4th Gen forum?
Kind of a generic Q

Yep 4th Gen forum section would be better but I’m sure you'll still get help here. It can be confusing since they were still making both trucks.

There is a 4th gen section on this forum, but you'd be better served and get better answers on a 4th gen forum.

There are dozens of these 2021's available around here -focusing on Ram dealers first.
Generally 20-35Kmi, and none appear to be molested toys in the posted pics.
Almost all are 3.21 rear axle, a couple 3.55's. All have 8spd Auto 850RE trans.
Settled on shopping the 6 b/c many are desired quad cab, it's 305HP, and Pentastar has been around a long time.
Only tow about 10mi total annually to launch/haul out my 3,000lb boat.
Would love a Hemi, just because, but being practical here LOL.
Next week will pick a couple of the best appearing ones and start the fun visits to the dealers.
Almost all are $29-30K range, some up to $32K. IDK how much they deal on price, but will know soon LOL.
