I have a 2021 RAM 1500 Limited with Ramboxes. Shortly after I purchased it (in 2021) the left Rambox started popping open by itself. I unplugged the connector at the latch to stop it from happening. About two weeks later I decided to plug it back in and see what happened. That was 4 years ago. It never popped open again…until recently.

About a month ago it started popping open again. I tried unplugging the connector again for a couple of weeks but the problem still exist.

While searching the problem and solutions on this site, I came across several comments about a “Jumper harness.” I have since ordered and received the harness.

My question is: Do I simply remove the old harness and replace it with the jumper harness and the problem is solved?

Thanks.

did you figure out how to swap the harness? did it fix the problem?

I'm sure you're going to find this truly sad....I"ve had the harness since June but have not gotten around to installing it!

When I do get "around-to-it", I will update this thread and report the results. (y)

not sure if this is a permanent fix but... 2 weeks ago, after going thru one of those automated car wash, my left rambox started behaving randomly!! different behavior everyday for a week. it went from the box opening whenever it wants (even going 70 mph on the freeway), to opening after starting the truck, to opening after I shutdown the truck, and every 5 sec or 1 minute after shutdown. it even opened when the back passenger door opened. I resorted to electrically disconnecting it for a few days.

last weekend, I removed the connector (circled in red) that connects the box to the truck and didn't find anything odd, sprayed a lot alcohol in the connector (both ends), air dried for a few hours, applied some dielectric grease (both ends), reconnected. the light in the box and the latch didn't work... I thought - FACK!! I started the truck, turned it off... everything worked as before. it's been a few days, no more gremlins. I'm going thru the car wash again soon... we'll see.

I finally “Got around tuit”!... and it’s not good news.

This weekend I decided it was time to install the “Jumper harness” that is supposed to stop the left Rambox from randomly opening at it’s own will. (the harness that I purchased last June).

First, the hardest part of the job was disconnecting the electrical connector under the truck that goes to the Rambox. I spent more time on that than I did unbolting and removing the Rambox.

After putting it all back together, the Rambox will not open with the push-button as it should, also the lights inside the box do not come on when I push the switch. The first thing I did was check to see if I had 110 v at the high voltage outlet at the rear of the box. I plugged in one of those “handy home owner testers with the 3 lights” into the receptacle and I got 2 lights to come on (the red and 1 yellow)…looking at the legend on the tester that means that I have an open ground. That would also probably account for the lights not coming on. So, either I have a bad replacement harness, or something is not making contact inside one of the three connectors. I will pull it out again soon, check the harness for continuity and see what I find.

I’m hoping the problem isn’t the connector coming from the truck to the harness. I have attached a photo of the original connector. Before putting it all back together, I did spray contact cleaner into the connector coming from the truck to the Rambox harness.

I removed the Rambox and the harness (again). I checked all wires at all the connectors for continuity. All are good, and still no lights and box won't open when pushing button on lid.

The only thing I can conclude is the connector that connects to the Rambox harness is so corroded inside the connector that it is not making contact. I’ll search around to see if I can order that part of the harness that contains connector.

The photo below is one side of the old connector (the other side is worse).
