Update?

So Monday afternoon, 5:06pm, I get a call from Fredy, the Tech Specialist "assigned to my case".
Of course, I missed the call. Got to the phone as the last ring was ending. Fredy doesn't leave a voicemail, but sends an email with a callback number and extension. I call him RIGHT back. Goes to voicemail, so I leave him a message to call back. And, I reply to his email, asking him to call back. Does he call back?
I think you can guess the answer to that question.

So Tuesday morning at 9:00am, I called his number again and leave another voicemail asking for a call back. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. Phone at my side and ringer on loud. And I waited. 21 hours after the last plea for contact - and I'm still waiting.

Did I miss my lone opportunity? Do I have to start the process all over again? This is beginning to look an awful lot like a bad Twilight Zone episode. And I just have that sneaking suspicion that when I finally do get to speak to Fredy (or someone in Tech) he's going to tell me to take it to the dealer. Which they could have done a week ago on my 1st call.

Look, I love my truck. But this whole Uconnect experience...I could do without.

I have the 12" screen on version 20.04.01
No update notification as of yet.
My truck will be in the shop today for an oil change, tire rotate, and floor mat recall. I'll have them check for any updates too. The last time I installed it myself, the dealer had to buy me a new radio to replace the bricked one. So I'm a little gun shy on OTA updates.

Well, I finally got to speak to Fredy. Nice fellow. Offered some settings to check that I hadn't thought of, and that normally would've fixed my issues. Except that they didn't.
So, at the end of the session, Fredy offered the dreaded solution, "Take it to the dealer".
The dealer, he said, should be able to determine if it's a hardware issue with the unit.
I appreciate that that's what he has to say, but in all honesty I can't figure out how it could be a hardware issue when that hardware had been working flawlessly - right up until the update. Is the hardware so fragile that it can't accept new data? Would the OTA influx of digital code somehow increase wear and tear on the components? It seems like there's something in that update - perhaps corrupted due to poor signal - is causing the system to no longer recognize my USB ports, where they worked perfectly before.

I'm going to do a "disconnect the battery" once to see if I can get the system to restart from full power off and see if that will straighten it out. If not - to the dealer I go to start that whole rigamarole. Wish me luck!

Dealership scheduled. Monday afternoon. Let's hope they have a can-o'-Uconnect whoopass at the ready!

Great. My system updated yesterday. Carplay would work after......

You CarPlay would or would not work after?

I use a wireless CarPlay dongle. Before the update I used the USB #3 port in the backseat to plug it in. After the update the port will not recognize the device. If I plug my phone directly into it, it will play as an iPod but no CarPlay. The other two ports up front continue to function as normal. Have you checked a different port?

The dealership was of no help. They wanted to just replace the USB port.

I have the 8.4 with navigation and received the OTA update today.

This was the first update I've had in two years of owning the truck. They kept telling me an update was coming any day now for two years!

I wonder what was changed, updated or fixed?

So far I have only noticed that my am/fm radio presets need to be setup again.

Dealer is going to try to roll back the update, take the software back to the previous version.
Says if that fails, they’ll have to order a new radio.

Okay final update (I hope). Technician determined it was the media hub that needed to be replaced, rather than the whole unit. They had one in stock, so I was out the door in about an hour after they made their determination. I was skeptical that that's what it could be, but it's working now. The media USB ports are seeing my USB drives with MP3 music. and CarPlay is working again. The only weird after-effect is that CarPlay used to work only when the phone was connected to the rear media USB port (USB 3). Now, it only works in the front media USB port(USB 1). Not thrilled with that, but for the price - I'll take it. Total out the door: $0.00. I asked why no charge, (since my warranty is done) and the service advisor said because it was a known issue.

Works for me. I hope there are no more updates. Ever.

Update went through on the wife's Charger a week or so ago ALL presets are gone Satilite and AM/FM, I reset them, but every time you shut the car off they are gone again when you start it. Call dealer tomorrow.

I figured it out today, problem solved.

After the update my sound is off kilter, almost like they applied a "loudness" curve, treble it too high and bass is on overload.
I plan to rerun the mic DSP setup on my Kicker amp again tomorrow to smooth it back out. It is most apparent with XM, Carplay is not as far off....

Hey thanks for sharing your painful experience. I’m having the exact same problem with my 2019 ram 1500, mine has 40,000 miles. You saved me a bit of a headache. Looks like I’m headed to the dealer.

same for me systemwas good now sucks HELP!!!!!!!

I ran the DSP mic-setup again and now I am back to good sound quality. If your amp does not support DSP there are stand alone DSP modules available but for the price you can pick up a Kicker Key AMP with it built in.
